i don't know if i missed them or not but how are you on SAK executives or 74mm? i can't tell from the wengers you have but you may have a spot for one or two maybe... by the way that's a nice safari stag hunter you have.

You need:

1. SOS kit for a Swiss Champ.

2. Champion (1970's to 1980's, pre Swiss Champ vintage). I EDC one, and have done so since it was my first SAK I bought at age 14 in 1986.

3. SuperTimer...a Swiss Champ with the analog watch on it.

4. Grand Prix

And there are PLENTY others. I did not see any with the digital readout scales on it (several models). I did not see the Sailor/Helmsman, etc. 111mm models....Oh, no Fisherman, Angler, Deluxe Tinker, or....drumroll here.....Deluxe Fisherman or SWISS FLAME. Find a Swiss Flame or Deluxe Fisherman, THEN I will be impressed!!!!

BTW: I can be of help here. The dude at Namdaemun market in Seoul had declared me his "best customer" and I need to pay him a visit soon. 4 day weekend next weekend...HMMM. Felinevet: if you read this, send me a wishlist and I will see what I can do. Been a while since I have pad the Victorinox Adjima located in Seoul a visit......
FYI: your 100-year Swiss Champ you got from Felinevet came via me from the Victorinox Adjima in Seoul....

Hmm...I've been going over this quite a bit and wanted to ask Dan about his overall thoughts on the Wenger ranger line. I was thinking that this might be a good direction worth investigating seeing as these pieces are no longer being manufactured(under the Wenger Brand) and a good number of them are very nice pieces altogether =)

As for the Wenger Ranger line...go for it. They are all nice knives. Be sure to add a few of the newer Victorinox versions as well.

red_rider_1979, at the start, I was not planning on getting into SAKs at all. They did not interest me until I joined this forum, and got caught about all the praises that SAK owners were lavishing upon these knives. Then I bought the first set of Wengers from a local store, and I was hooked. It was all too easy for me to view SAKs as multi-tools, which enabled me in my mind to start collecting them. In fact, I didn't view myself a collector of SAKs until I bought the 2009 Anniversary Victorinox Soldier...then I was forced to admit that I was a collector of such tools. Now I have well in excess of 800 knives. I haven't bothered to do a head count as it is too time consuming these days, and to be honest, I have slowed down simply because you can only have so many before it all becomes pointless, but this hasn't stopped me from adding a knife or two here and there if something catches my eye. What I do know, I am a generalist when it comes to collecting, as the following threads that I am linking to, will show you. So to answer your question red_rider_1979, my only direction was having non at all.

You see, in the beginning, I wanted a little bit of everything and started off with the more common models eg. swiss champ, craftsman, super tinker, explorer. Then I found out about 1961 model soldiers and decided to concentrate fully on completing the years ie. to go in depth. Halfway through, I got impatient and started looking at other odd-ball SAKs like auto tool, sports rachet, golf tool ie. to expand the width. After a year of collecting and looking at all the SAKs that I have, I realised that I'm neither here nor there in terms of accomplishment. When I read your original post in this thread, your situation resonated with what I'm experiencing now, and I had asked you that question so that I can "know the road ahead".

I think everyone collects differently, and for different reasons. I have seen some highly focused and complete collections on here. However, my problem, or is it a problem...I am always curious about other tools and things. I could never focus my collecting to a specific area. I would find that boring personally. Likewise, accomplishment is in the eye of the collector. If you are dissatisfied with what you have done in the past year, maybe it is time for you to focus your collection to something you can appreciate better.

My feeling of accomplishment not only comes from the variety of things I have on tap (and get to play with), but from the memories, photographs and threads I have made for this forum. I do enjoy sharing the items I have, and I hope in some small way, help others who are interested in multi-tools in general. I may not be the most knowledgeable person on these forums, but I do take a mean photo, and that is how I contribute to this community.

That is where I get my kicks. You will just have to find where your's resides. Look on the bright side, you probably have a lot of awesome gear going the generalist route.

I couldn't agree more on that. Browsing through the different threads on collections in this forum made me realise that it is impossible to collect ALL of the different models, although a particular forum member by a username which sounds like "charcoal" seems to be the closest to accomplishing that

For me, I want to focus on collecting enough for an ultra mini SAK museum in my living room, with each shelf having a different focus eg. Soldiers, alox, fave 91mm cellidors, odd-balls/others, vintage models, and lastly a shelf dedicated to the history of SAKs, containing books and the various models which show the evolution of SAKs. That is my ultimate goal for now. One day, I hope to be able to share photos of my ultra mini SAK museum but at this point it is nowhere near complete. And being at this part of the world meant that I have to get most of my SAKs through evilbay, which is a costly and frustrating process.

I am travelling to Seoul in December for a short holiday so I'm hoping to find some rare SAKs over there like bren10man did 5 years ago. Hope there's still some good stuff left. Wish me luck

Great collection! I myself limit my collection to a few interesting subjects (ie the Classics National Flag series, 84mm models, and other small sub collections)
