"Mammut Fine Tools" (Wave Knockoff)
on: September 01, 2009, 06:16:29 PM
Just browsing ebay looking for deals and I came across this guy from "Mammut Fine Tools"

I'm tempted to give it a shot for 13 bucks... I can't imagine this hurting as a spare tool to keep in the glove box...

Anyone have any experoence with knockoffs like these? Any reason to not pick this up?

thanks in advance...

So blatant it hurts. :D

I've had a couple fine quality knockoffs over the years, no idea on this brand though. Good luck with that!

There are some informal reviews of it on this site if you search around.

The one thing I recall was that many people wished LM made a tool with that tool configuration, especially the bigger scissors and awl.

I am pretty certain the quality is nowhere near LM's league though.

DaveK did a good comparison review of the Mammut Wave here:

I've accumulated a couple more knock-offs recently, the "best" one being a Crunch copy. If I get chance, I'll see if I can get some pictures up over the weekend.

Guyute - don't expect too much from the Mammut - it costs $13 for a reason! I carry a Swisstool in my glove compartment, as I figure that I'll want a tool to depend on if I break down or something. I wouldn't feel comfortable depending on a Mammut!

If you've tasted the real thing, knock-offs like these are really just novelties. They do make you appreciate the quality that LM, Vic, SOG, Gerber etc give you though.
I used to come here a lot.

I was at Gander Mt. tonight and saw a Smiths sharpening kit of some sort that had a smaller
version of this tool with it as a bonus.

Good looks everyone... I do own a Wave and it would be interesting to compare the quality up close and keep a backup ... but not worth blowing money on a tool that could fail me if I trusted it in a time of need.
