The multitool is pretty cruddy. :P Not as bad as some mind you, but not good either. The universal socket will sort of work in a pinch. The socket has an elliptical adapter/driver that is meant to be gripped with the pliers. I've never tried to loosen a bolt this way, but it doesn't seem like it would work very well. :-\
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I use the socket on lugnuts and other stuff all the time. it will fit most ratchets. sometimes the nut gets stuck in it thought...
as for the multi, I think it might be the strongest multi out ther when it comes to pliers. I spoke here once about cutting pocket clips with the wire cutters. leatherman struggled a little as did other brands. vic did well. some of my sog tools did well and others struggled. I was using powerloocks and I am not sure why one did better than the other. in the end the three strongets tools that could cut through them were this endeavor, vic, and the schrade craftsman. the worst was gerber and wenger but that was really just a design difference and had nothing to do with the plier and pivot strength.

Oooh.  I'd kind of like to have that ratchet head in my collection.
