Weight of single parts and tool of a Wave
on: January 05, 2024, 06:25:12 AM
Hi, I was wondering if anyone would know the weight of the parts of a Wave. I mean the weight of the outside tools like the knives and the file etc. and the weights of inside tools. I am in a modding project to create a tool with minimum weight and maximum strength.

That may be something you will have to do yourself  If I had something to weigh things like that I would do it but I unfortunately don't :dunno: Maybe someone here does though :salute:

I concur with Poncho😉

A food scale will do the job.
I have one, but no interest in taking apart any on my tools.

You can minimize weight, not certain you can maximize strength.

I find the REBAR is the best awl around MT at the best value for my needs.  A Older PST is the minimum.

A titanium built tool way be the lightest, yet the cost will be ridiculous I would imagine.

Best wishes.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Thanks, I took apart a Curl and did all the measuring on the tools. I got a plan for a Wave to be stripped of some of the implements and I will be filling the “gaps” with some hardwood parts which I’ll form myself. I am curious how it will turn out. And I will post the outcome.

The aim of this project is to create a tool that should have been the Curl. My problem with the Curl is that in my opinion Leatherman messed it up. The handles are twisting too much in closed position when the user is trying to use the awl or the bit driver because the plierhead has too much room in the handles. There is a gap between the plierhead and the Rebar style side of the handle. Now that I am thinking I dont remember how the Rebar stays firm because it also has a weird handle shape. But the Rebar has a squared plierhead and the Curl has the rounded Wave head. Anyway, The inside wall of the handle should be parallel with the plierhead and it should fit tight in the handle.

It feels like the whole thing is about to collapse in my hands when the handles twist apart. By the way they could do it properly when they designed the Signal. So I dunno what happened with the Curl and the Bond.
It is clearly visible that the Signal handle has a wide portion of square handle part parallel with the plierhead ensuring tightness.
