Thanks guys - yeah, I've been remiss in my posting lately. Let's see if I can get up to date in the various threads.

It's an old BMW R850R. I've just managed to do a 20 min. lunchtime repair on a hunch - as it turns out the ground pole bracket on the battery was hanging on by a last turn of the screw thread (tapped into a way-too-thin thickness, IMO), which apparently made for too much resistance, which goes a long way to explain the starting trouble I've had lately. Used the ST at various junctures to hold nuts whilst undoing screws and the bracket whilst drilling out the worn thread.
