I've been a member for some time now. It lives in the car though. Too heavy to edc, rather stick with smaller ones for that.

I have unexpectedly joined the club after getting my trusty ST200 back from Leatherman as a ST300.
I'm a bit disappointed because I asked that they repair and not replace it.
But I guess I'll have to let it grow on me :)

Perhaps you could call Leatherman, explaining that you specified that you didn't want your tool replaced.  As I understand it, they are supposed to honor those requests.  Maybe you can get your tool returned.

ST300 ordered.  I've been carrying my Core exclusively for a while now, and the ST looks to just make that even nicer.

Got mine yesterday.  I like it quite a lot.  It feels a bit more manageable than my Core, even though it's the same size.  The clumping is going to take some getting used to, I like the cutouts for the blades.  It'll be my EDC until I can figure out where I left my Spirit.

I'm surprised at how the initial tool tightness seems just right.  I can flick it open one handed without a year's worth of break in time.  The lower shoulder profile makes the pliers easier to use in tight spots compared to the core.

I have no tool rubbing at all.  I'm still not sold on clumping, but trying to get used to it.

Great tool.

I got my first ST300 today  :D I love the plier head and especially the wire cutters .The date codes are 1109 and 09 9 so its an early one with the missing 0 i've read others taking about .
I'm happy with it but not sure about the handle movement when the tool is closed  There is no play in the tools or pliers but I don't like how the handles can overlap each other when using the drivers . Is this normal ? I've attached a small video to show what I mean .

I'm camera shy  :-[ lol everything is tight , it's just the handles overlap each other when applying any torque when using the drivers .

I believe it is, both of mine do this. It looks to be a combination of the gap between the tools causing just the small surface of the handles to make the only contact, combined with the flex in the steel of the handles themselves. Any sideways force (especially the twisting motion of a driver) instantly causes the overlap.

Disappointing design flaw...

As replied on LM's Facebook page. BTW, Leatherman are moving stuff to Salt Lake City for the convention this weekend so replies may be slow or after the weekend. That's quite a drive across Oregon, base of Idaho, and half way through Utah.

Quote from: Duncan Moore
Got a Supertool 300 yesterday , I really like it but not keen on how the handles can overlap each other when applying torque on the drivers .

Have two, one has not been used.
Neither has any play between the handles. However both have play only in the closed position rubbing them side to side - with some effort. Since the handles are necked-down to the thin pliers that would make sense, as the pliers pivot axis in inside the handles. The only support is on the knurled handle bolts and the plier jaws play within the handles.
Once the pliers pivot axis is on the other side (pliers deployed) there is no play since the handle wedges are engaged and act on the pliers pivot. If there was play in the pliers pivot then there would be play in the handles in this fashion.
When torquing at a 45° angle you are applying pressure on the pliers, the weaker necked-down area, and the bolts. Still thin metal compared to a proper torquing tool which is at least 1/2" solid all around at minimum.

Noticed that even the Charge and Wave handles will move side to with some effort. Would surmise that most any multitool would when used a lot would. More so if bent out of alignment when torquing.

Yes your right , when the pliers are deployed there is zero play . My other slight issue that can be seen at the start of my video is that when the pliers are closed there seems to be a high spot somewhere so if you push the plier end together it rocks and the other end opens up a couple of mills . Hard to explain and a little picky but kind of makes the tool rattle a bit .

Hi Dunc, after watching your video and the movement of your handles when closed, your ST300 is very similar to mines. I don't have as much play in mines but there is a little and the handles are slightly offset when closed. But also like yours when the pliers are open there is no play at all.

Actually the play is still there, although somewhat minimized, and less perceptible with the the plier cams "locked". You can verify this by mounting one handle of the open tool in a soft jawed vice, and then mounting a stationary measuring device (dial gauge, or ruler) against the end of the other handle, I found that the steel still does flex about the same amount as with the tool closed.

It does seem somewhat more exaggerated with the ST300, what with the small contact area between the handles when closed.
