jaundice (uncountable)
(pathology) A morbid condition, characterized by yellowness of the eyes, skin, and urine, whiteness of the feces, constipation, queasiness, loss of appetite, and general languor and lassitude. It is caused usually by obstruction of the biliary passages and consequent damming up, in the liver, of the bile, which is then absorbed into the blood. Other causes include increased hemolysis and any liver disease. The discoloration is caused by accumulation of bilirubin in the body; bilirubin is normally excreted in bile to give feces their normal yellow-brown coloration.

In Toronto it has been successfully argued that unless there is a sign at the intersection notifying the drivers about the red light camera, the cameras are considered a cash grab, not a safety measure. As a result, all the intersections with red light cameras marked (and published: http://www.toronto.ca/transportation/redlight_cameras/locations.htm ), the fine is $190, but still, the number of tickets issued is pretty significant.

With respect to "speed traps", as much as I hate the "sneakiness" (I did get a ticket from a "fisherman" hiding with the radar at the end of a long bridge), I agree with Benner - speeding is a choice we make, while being aware of the both the consequences and the probablility of being caught. Maybe it will help to look at it this way: £60 fine, ammortized over 15 years is about 1p/day...

I read a very funny story (or was it on the news?) about a guy who was caught on camera and was sent a photograph of him driving over the speed limit. He replied by sending them back a photograph of the money he owed! 

The police then sent him a photograph of a prison  ..........the guy paid up!!!
