Non Rusty Wallet MT (lots of pics)
on: September 13, 2009, 01:15:58 PM
I saw this on Ebay for a buy it now price of $80us , I thought 'nice but a bit pricey'. The auction was near to finishing so I offered $55us & the seller excepted, postage was only $10 to OZ so my initial guilt was soon forgotten when I got it. It is VERY NICE  :D :D :D

Sheilds brand ? American company.

Tool was made in Japan, tools nationality is very discrete only once on the box & once on the tool . I would not be surprised if the tool was well over 40yrs old.My old man used to say in the olden days people used to consider 'made in Japan' as not as good as made else were. This tool seems to be exceptionally high quality.

Main tool/handle includes a combined phillips head screw driver that also doubles as the locking lever , blade(chisel grind)+metal protective sheath, flat screw driver , saw, combined cap lifter + can opener , file & hammer.

The tools on the Japanese tool are surprisingly large , comparison between it & Vic Swisstool + a LM Core

The blade & saw is almost a match to the original behemoth , the Wenger SwissGrip  :o

My one real misgiving with this style of tool, is how narrow the are , a lot of tool but a little handle  , not terribly comfortable.

Skinny aint , compared to the SwissGrip , Swisstool & Core.

Tools locking tabs

Phillips head screw driver deployed tool unlocked.

Screw driver folded back, tool bit locked. A surprising amount of pressure is required to fold the screw driver down & lock a tool in place. But the lock up is amazing, Zero movement at all in the tool bit. The lock up is drum tight & just terrific.

I love the hammer  :D :D :D :D :D :D.

That's cool.  But would you mind taking taking the handle apart so we can see how the lock mechanism functions :P
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Pretty neat! :tu: I'd not heard of the Shields brand before. Awesome that you got the whole kit including case and box in such great shape.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools
