Layer limit for loose in pocket carry

Poll

When carrying a SAK loose in your pocket, how many layers can you tolerate?

I'm a minimalist - nothing over 1 layer
2 layers feels OK in my pocket
3 layers feels OK in my pocket
4 layers feels OK in my pocket
Thickness doesn't bother me - the more layers the better for me

I can't tolerate a SAK over two layers thick for EDC loose in my pocket.

What is your limit in layers for a SAK to be EDCed loose in your pocket?

.

I can go up to 3 layers but most of the time I just carry a 2 layer.  4 or more has to go in a belt sheath.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

For twenty years I carried a 4 layer Huntsman, but gladly switched to the two layer Compact for EDC.

I got a Wenger New Ranger for a birthday gift, and today dropped it into the pocket today as I went to my job.
Sure it's huge (compared to my usual Nomad), I half-expected "are you just glad to see me" jokes from coworkers, but it's not the layers, it's the scales that contribute so much to its thickness. Sure it fills the hand nicely, but feels much like trying to carry an axe or a hammer in the pocket.
Stuffing it into the lighter pocket tamed the beast, but three layers aren't an issue if scales do not double the thickness.

Same here; when I'm back home, I can be found toting, typically, either my Explorer Plus, or my Waiter, number of layers doesn't bother me. :)

Same here.  Everything goes in the pockets - I barely notice even a large SAK most of the time cus I always wear baggy jeans.

3 layer alox for suits/DJs etc...  no prizes for guessing which 3 layer alox I'm talking about :D

I usually have them clipped to something on my belt so it's not technically loose, 4 would probably be the max otherwise.

I can't answer, as it really depends on the pocket.

Usualy I keep the knife or knives in my front pocket.
I don't mind if the tool/knife has many layers...makes me "look good for the ladies " :D  :pok:
OK no jokes...I don't care. BUT to me if a swiss knife has too many tools will be hard to put
to a good use. but if you don't have the basic tools you won't be use when needed...
so , be wise and you make your pic for EDC   :climber:

Oooh...a poll! :D

Three is my comfortable limit in 84mm and 91mmm...two for 108mm...I don't like pocket carry for 111mm at all.

I like up to three layers in the pocket - but I tend to carry an explorer all the time. If a thinner sak came out that had a magnifying glass I would buy one yesterday.  :tool:

There's always the Yeoman (at three layers), or the Scientist (at two). ;)

I agree.  Well, considering that the thickest one I have is 4 layers.  If I'm wearing cargo shorts (which I always wear during warm weather) the thickness doesn't bother me at all.  If I'm wearing jeans, 2 maybe 3 depending on what I'm doing.  And if I'm wearing cargo pants, heck I don't care.  I can load down those pockets.  :)

Both are excellent SAKs and I could add the Passenger (three layers) to that list as well, but none of them are easy to get hold of, especially in the UK. :-\

Whoops, yeah, I keep on forgetting about that Passenger, too. :/  Modding a Spartan Lite may work. *shrugs*  Or just creating a homemade Scientist and pair it with a Rambler for scissors?

Of the three I much prefer the Scientist with a second SAK (like the Rambler) for the scissors.

It may not feel like it's big but will leads to back problems believe it or not. I used to carry wallet in back pocket and my back gets really sore on long drives. Then somebody told me and I stopped doing that, and my back haven't been sore ever since.

When I'm in the car the wallet goes in my visor, take it out if I'm shopping or go inside.  Once inside I dump my pockets anyway.  Reminds me I got a new Vic wallet the other day I need to show some pics.

Yeah, the Tinker has two layers.  A layer is simply, for lack of better words, each row of tools; on the modern Tinker, for example:

layer 1:  small blade, large blade, Phillips
layer 2:  can opener/small screwdriver, bottle opener/wire stripper/large screwdriver, reamer with eye

:)
