Layer limit for loose in pocket carry

Poll

When carrying a SAK loose in your pocket, how many layers can you tolerate?

I'm a minimalist - nothing over 1 layer
2 layers feels OK in my pocket
3 layers feels OK in my pocket
4 layers feels OK in my pocket
Thickness doesn't bother me - the more layers the better for me

Doesn't matter much to me.  Swisschamp feels really good in the back pocket.

I could not sit down anywhere with a Champ in my a*** pocket  :o

I rarely notice it when its on its side, no thicker than wallet.

You must have more money than me  :)

Only the Explorer is in production at the moment I think  :-\ - never seen a scientist, passenger.....well anything else smaller with a mag for sale.

Ha.  I have seen three Yeomen thus far, and one of those is one I purchased - then later sold to FelineVet. :)  I've yet to see either a Scientist or Passenger, though.

I hope I become good enough at modding to create my own Scientist, though; it seems like a good size for me. :)

Depends on the type of pockets really but in jeans or cargo trousers a SwissChamps no problem :)

I'm o.k. with the SwissChamp, C.T.41 , etc. for pocket carry. But, 8 years in the Infantry may have influenced my opinion of excessive carry. :P Most days I find myself constantly checking my pockets to make sure I've still got all of my gear. I don't feel any sensation of weight or discomfort with the larger Vic's. I find myself more concerned about carrying items that don't see real usage for more than a few weeks. That is where minimalism begins for me.

Thanks to everyone who responded to this poll.

Interesting results:

-about half the respondents prefer 3 layers or less

-about half the respondents prefer 4 layers or more

-the most popular thickness was 3 layers

-nobody prefers to pocket carry a single layer SAK

Must say that I'm surprised at how many of you guys are happy to pocket carry the thicker 4+ layer SAKs.

Before this poll, I'd have guessed that very few people would want to pocket carry anything over 4 layers.

Two layers is definitely my preference in the comfort department. However, to get all the tools I feel most comfortable facing just about anything with, it takes 3-4. I usually face the world unprepared :P

I have carried my Champion before in my pocket.  Now, pouch only as I hate to clean it.....lint, dust, etc.  If I do carry in a pocket, a Super Tinker will suffice.  I could go up to say Huntsman, what is that, 4 layers?  and that is it.

Swiss Champ in your pocket?  Are you kidding....SHEESH!!

The Vic lockblades, i.e. OHT/GAK-II/2008 Soldier, are TOO long for my likes to carry in a pocket, UNLESS it is in a specialty pocket on my 511 brand pants...The pants and "Bermuda" length shorts have a pistol magazine/large knife pocket.  In fact, I had my 2009-dated Soldier in that pocket last night as I didn't want to bring attention to myself at a restaurant that has a bar.

I would say a Huntsman is about the upper limit of what I would carry in a pocket .

Seeing as I rarely carry a SAK, and the only one I have is 1 layer, I voted for 4 :D

Normally I carry a Surge in the pocket, so 3-4 layers of Alox SAK shouldn't bother me much. Would really like a Farmer, which is... 3?  :-\... or Neil's modded Cadet, both really nice looking to me

The more layers, the better! (almost)

I seem to cycle between my Vic Ranger (5 layers), a Champion Plus (7), and my SwissChamp (8) (with occasional carries of smaller Vics)

I feel unprepared without a selection of tools available.
