Mike and I get on particularly well and are like a married couple - hence the bickering.  :D

Guess we should start calling you The Bickersons then.

I have been on several forums over the years and NEVER until MT.O have I ever read threads aloud to  my wife.  Somehow these jewels (almost always with a significant British input) need to be incorporated into a show, movie or comedy routine. :salute:

Oh yea, and about once a month, I actually learn something interesting about SAKs, MT's or Flashlights. :D

A few of us go there yes.  I'm not a huge poster (maybe 100 or so) but I do have a good look through the classifieds and also the law section.  You can learn a lot from there.

Yeah, it's a good site and I've been a member for a few years now.  The problem is that most of the talk is about knives that I'm no longer interested in.  Muliti's barely (if ever) get a mention and, while lots of folks like SAKs, there isn't much interest in them.

I never quite got why some Americans are so down on the French, weren't they on your side against the British?  Guys like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbert_du_Motier,_marquis_de_Lafayette.

And say what you like, but the French did very little running away under Napoleon's leadership.

I believe it began with the pomposity of DeGaulle in WWII and in the post WWII era.  Many Americans felt he took the actions of the Brits/Americans for granted in his mad dash for power.

Personally, I like the French but have a strong distaste for the way French politics has (from WWII until very recently) run French affairs as if it were France, Inc.  I also did not like the use of French special forces to sink the Rainbow Warrior, when France, Inc wanted to finish its nuclear arms testing undisturbed.

My next door neighbor growing up was a French woman married to an American.  She was AWESOME! (As was he)

And they did give you the Statue of Liberty

That's my opinion too. There's a very well known, in fact iconic photograph of De Gaulle during the liberation of Paris after WWII, atop a tank, with the Arc de Triomphe in the background. In the popular version of it, you cannot see the American markings. Legend has it that De Gualle himself had that image cut down. I've heard a few similar stories too.

I agree with your opinion of France's politics too, particularly the farce that was their exit from NATO.

I used to come here a lot.

In modern times: DeGaulle in WWII, and staying out of the War on terror

The “friendship” from the revolution actually ended (in France) with the French Revolution the US did not come to there aid

And in the US it goes back to the War of 1812, which was a result of the war with Napoleon because both the Brits and French were sizing our ships and sailors (that is when it ended in the US).
