I'm gonna get a couple of Micra's
on: September 19, 2009, 10:23:49 PM
I had two Craftsman MT's. They were the rebranded Schrade Tough Chip. Great little tools, I've praised them on here before but after abusing the piss out of them for 8 years they were worn out. The scissors still worked great but the locks that holded the blades and screwdrivers were FUBAR. Anyway, I went to exchange them but Sears doesn't carry a Craftsman equivalent anymore so the store manager ordered me 2 LM Micra's in exchange. Of course I OK'ed it 1st.

He was telling me how Sears has seriously gone downhill in the last few years. I worked at Sears about 8 years ago so we traded stories plus he was a veteran so we traded some war stories too. Anyway, he spent almost a half hour helping me, I guess to trade a Craftsman for something else he had to go through channels but I'm pleased with my service. He didn't have any in stock but said they'd ship them to me. I trust him, he seemed like he really wanted to keep me satisfied so I'm not worried about them not showing up. He said if they haven't arrived in 2 weeks to go back up there ad he'd reorder them.

So I guess I'll finally join the Micra club.

Cool story, you'll love the Micras.

A few years ago I was at Sears and there was a Micra sealed in the packaging, but the cardboard insert that says Leatherman and has the description/bar code/etc wasn't inside...just a plastic package with the Micra inside

I brought it to the cashier and said "How much is this thing?" hoping I'd get it cheap but she looked it up and told me $19.99 :P

DTH,

Sadly, I have to agree with the Sears guy.  The Craftsman brand used to be just a half step below Snap-on and Mac.  The last time I got a Craftsman hand tool, I was shocked how crappy it felt and looked.  Lowes Kobalt and Home Depot Husky are much nicer quality hand tools, IMO.  :-\

I got shafted on a "Craftsman" mini pliers set I bought a while ago (same time I saw that Micra I mentioned in this thread).  I had a gift card and picked up a cool little Craftsman set of small pliers in a little zippered case, which was in a cardboard box so it could hang on a peg...so there was no way I could actually see the tools until I got home.

Near total BS quality for what I paid (something like $30).  It was a set of poorly made (overseas) pliers I'd be happy to pay $5.00 for at the local closeout store.  Not $30 because it said CRAFTSMAN on the box.

Glad to here about the Micra's,but really sad the way Sears has gone down hill in the last 20 years,it was my favorite store in the 70's,and when I was a kid,I'd take the sears catalog to the little building out back that had the half moon on the door.
 :salute:
