Actually I did email Leatherman on Saturday to see if S30V was now available on the Wave, this was after I first saw it but didn't buy it. Still haven't gotten a response from them yet but when I do I just might email them the pics and see what they say.I certainly hope its an actual S30V blade and not a etching mistake, but thanks Dunc for putting that in my head now , the only way to be sure is to open it and find out how long the edge holds up.
Nutznboltz, are the inner impliments all "correct"? If they made a mistake on the blade, there might be something else a little off.
On a side note, I wonder if the same Leatherman employee is responsible for this Charge "ALX" I found last month? (Image removed from quote.)
Very interesting find there NB! Good on your sharp eye for spotting it too. On a side note, I wonder if the same Leatherman employee is responsible for this Charge "ALX" I found last month? (Image removed from quote.)

It's good to know some of Leatherman "mistakes" are upgraded ones, good for us.J-sews, have you opened yours?. I'll most likely leave the wave in the package as I have enough user multis to keep me occupied for the time being.

Quote from: Wetdog on September 21, 2009, 09:20:12 PMAnyone ever wonder if these "mistakes" are done on purpose?I don't know. Maybe it's a gift from the factory to people who are really interested in these things. Plus, word like this gets around and MT lovers like us go flock to the stores and look for one. If even 5% of us who look at the Wave decide to buy a regular one just as an impulse buy they're probably made money in the long run.
Anyone ever wonder if these "mistakes" are done on purpose?
Don't open it, its a good excuse to buy another one!

It loses a bunch of its coolness factor as soon as I open it. Nevertheless, I do plan on opening it. I have shelf queens, but I enjoy playing with my shelf queens. You can't do that if they're sealed in a clam pack.
Wow very cool find. Makes me want to go look through a bunch of our stock to see what little gems I can find. I've only seen a couple of packaging errors the whole time being a dealer but it's usually a completely wrong tool not a component of the tool.
I don't do shelf queens usually, but that's one case I'd keep it sealed (heck I'm sure you got enough of them that's opened to play with). As soon as you open it it's just another tti.

Yeah, but play-doh with an S30V blade Would you stick a Penny Black stamp on a letter you philistine?
Ben stop having a blonde moment Dunc
Quote from: DaveK on September 22, 2009, 10:36:18 PMYeah, but play-doh with an S30V blade Would you stick a Penny Black stamp on a letter you philistine? If I didn't have a second class one yeah. The way I see it is that if you have bought this with the plan to sell it later on then do store it away and then in a few months/ years sell it and you will probably do well. If that is not your plan, then leaving it in the packaging just wastes all the manufacturing efforts that created it. This isn't something like a stamp or a coin that has a defect that then increases it's value dramatically, this is a tool with a different blade that only real weirdo's like us would give a damn about. You have been lucky to get that quality blade so I say take advantage of their error and use it. It was designed as a tool afterall.
Where?
