Need Battery / Charger Help
on: September 23, 2009, 02:08:11 PM
I found a place called DX online http://www.dealextreme.com/ they sell lots of rechargeable batteries and chargers. I want rechargeable batteries in 123, AA and AAA. I have a Fenix Eo1 and L1T, upgraded Mini Mag Lite, Surefire G2 and Brinkman that takes 123 batteries. I am clueless about stuff like this any help would be appreciated.

I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

I am no expert on this, but be very careful with RCR123's.  'They' say to stay away from cheap and chinese branded RCR123 cells and to pay the slightly higher price for decent AW or US branded cells.  Cheap cells can vent with flame if not handled correctly so try and get the best cells you can.

Ben's right. Be careful with cheap RCR's. If you want inexpensive but reliable RCR batts., try the Ultrafire brand. I've been using those for months now and  never let me down. Longer runtime too.

For the rechargeble AA/AAA, many of us here use  Eneloop by Sanyo.

I have been using chargers and batteries from DX for over a year now and I am satisfied with the performance of these:

Charger/discharger for AA/AAA - SKU 6152
AA/AAA NiMh - Sanyo Eneloop

Charger for RCR123/14500/18650 - SKU 4151
RCR123 - SKU 8683 or 11670 or 19627

For the low cost 16340/RCR123 cells, the Trustfire brand is more reliable and consistent than Ultrafire.
I use Trustfire sku 19627 in a rather demanding (1.4A current draw) incandescent light with no issues at all.

As Benner said, if you want the best, get AW 16340/RCR123 cells.

One thing you need to be concerned with 16340/RCR123 cells is that their fully charged voltage is 4.2 volts, not 3.0 volts like a CR123 primary.
If the flashlight circuit isn't designed to handle the extra voltage, you'll either be direct driving the LED or you'll fry the circuitry.

With the G2 you can get P60/D26 drop-ins designed for rechargeable cells.  The standard LED or incan drop-in in a G2 cannot handle the extra voltage.

Also, 16340/RCR123 have about 1/3 the capacity of primary CR123A cells.
Depending on the brand and current draw, the 16340/RCR123 cells average between 550 and 650 mAh capacity.
Brand name primary CR123A cells have around 1500 mAh capacity.

As for AA/AAA batteries, Eneloops are the way to go.
If you don't want to pay the price for Eneloops, Rayovac Hybrids or Rayovac 4.0 cells are a good alternative.

+1,000

And It should be noted here that if you can't find Eneloops locally, you'll likely be able to find one of the following Eneloop rebrands:

-Duracell Precharged (white-tops (+) only!!! black-tops are NOT Eneloops)
-Sony CycleEnergy

Just make sure they have a white insulator around the (+) terminal and that they're made in Japan.

Rayovac Hybrids

ROV Hybrids typically have a slightly higher voltage sag under heavy load than Eneloops. My 2¢, go with Eneloops whenever possible.

I have a Fenix Eo1

I have it too (love it!) and I've been using NiMH 850 mAh Energizer batteries for a while with good results. Just today I've bought four Uniross (never heard of this brand before) AAA 1000 mAh and I'll test them as soon as they're ready and charged. Still looking for Eneloops, here in Italy, with no success. :(

I use AW batteries http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=197375
I would suggest using a quality charger too.

and I also like Eneloops too, good stuff :)
judge others by how they treat those they are allowed to mistreat
