The one I'm interested in is the single AA iteration . Any comments , pro or con ? Looking  to throw one in the kit to take advantage of available AA cells .

Is this the model you are thinking of?

http://www.brightguy.com/products/Streamlight_Task-Light_1AA_Flashlight.php

I've had a couple of these little lights for maybe three or four years.

Tough little guys with HI output similar to Gerber Infinity Ultra, but with the bonus of a very nice LO output of 2 lumens or so.

These lights seem to run forever on the LO setting, which is great when you want to keep your night adapted vision.

Strobe is also a nice bonus that doesn't get in the way, i.e. you'll never activate it unless it's intended.

Maybe not as tough as the Gerber Infinity, but still plenty tough.  Mine have been slammed around, briefly dunked, and dropped many times with no ill effects.

More day to day useful for me than the Infinity because of the very handy PB switch.

But, be aware than the 1AA Tasklight has a constant tiny current drain whenever a cell is installed.  You'll never notice it in normal use, but it will eventually drain the cell down when packed away in a survival kit.

I'd recommend the Gerber Infinity Ultra to pack away in a survival kit, because it's probably ultimately a tougher light.

I'd recommend the SL Tasklight to keep around as a daily user light to accomplish tasks.  Its name really does describe its functionality.

Frankly, I'm not impressed.

I've had a Twintask 1L with both LED and bi-xenon lamps on it.  It works, it's tough, and I thought it was the greatest thing until I got my hands on some Fenix lights.

Granted, the one I have is a CR123 affair, but know that almost ALL of the Streamlight products are made in China.  The Fenix products blow Streamlight away as far as EDC.

My Twintask has a focusing ring which is nearly worthless, because the reflector is covered with thousands of tiny dimples ... which spread the light out nicely and evenly when you need a wide field, but ruin the "tight spot" capability of the focusing ring because you can't turn the dimples off, and they flare and spill out glare on a narrow beam reducing contrast.

There are lots of high-end manufactures out there; Fenix is only one.  I don't think you would go wrong with the Streamlight, but you might be happier spending a bit more and getting a much better light.  Do some further reading and shop around would be my never-humble opinion.

I bought the Tasklight 3AA several years ago, it had a 1 watt lexeon bulb.  Not to impressive.  About two years ago I swapped out the lexeon with a Cree Q5 and WOW what a great light it turned into.  Now I wouldn't buy one just to mod it (your better off buying a different led) but if you already had one I can say you would be impressed with the mod.  The best thing is, Im an idiot and I was able to mod it.

Twintask 1L was a great light for its time, which was maybe five years ago.  Still makes a decent backup light for automotive use or a survival kit.

As fast as LED tech has been advancing, it doesn't make much sense to compare a 5 year old SL design to the latest Fenix designs.  It also doesn't make sense to compare a SL Twintask against Fenix lights that cost three times as much.

Streamlight is my favorite flashlight company because it produces the widest variety of lights of any company and it has one of the best warranties in the business:

From inexpensive button cell and AAA lights up to more expensive lights for police, fire, industrial, and military applications, Streamlight makes something for everyone.

Streamlight's safety rated, drop tested, hazardous location approved industrial lights decisively beat the competition IMO.  SL headlamps also match or beat the competition.

Very good light for its time, which was five years ago.

The new version:

IMO this is a great light for the money, if you are looking for a simple, rugged, reliable task light.

Not everyone appreciates the overly complex user interface used in Fenix and similar lights.

I had one a year ago and wasn't impressed with it at all, ended up giving it away to a buddy of mine.  There are much better AA available,  and as I recall it wasn't all that cheap.  Also tried the twin task versions and again was less than impressed with the light output and the size of the light.  Deal Extreme has a great selection of lights and decent prices.
