KA-BAR K2 Rescue Kit
on: October 01, 2009, 06:53:32 AM
Anyone have one of these?

Blunt tip serrated blade, 9 bits + adapter, some wrench capability built into the handle, and what looks like a glass breaker on the butt.

Looks decent for 18 bucks.

Does this look like a good EDC to anybody else? You could use it to cut rope and stuff like that, and when you need a PE just use a SAK. I really like the wrench and bit drivers tools. I hope the work well. I'm thinking about getting one. Anyone have one?

Good EDC for a rescue worker for sure.  Not sure I'd want to EDC this tool, but with its bit and wrench capability maybe it'd be OK for EDC.

Looks to me like a great tool to keep in the car.

Price is low enough to get one for each vehicle.   If it does get stolen out of your car you wouldln't be out a whole lot.

The rounded serrations is really nothing new.  A dozen years ago I had a S&W First Response knife like that:

There's also another current issue one that I can't think of that has rounded serrations.

Leave the dents as they are- let your belongings show their scars as proudly as you do yours.

We had one of those at work, frankly not impressed.  Window breaker did not work as good as the flashlight and the cutter was a little too safe to be a good cutter.

What do you expect from a company like Taylor Craplery?  Quality?  Function?  No my dear boy, you pay for the name Smith & Wesson, and add your money to a large dump truck.

If this tool was reserved for emergency uses - cutting only seat belts, clothing, airbags, rope, etc. - it might never need to be sharpened.

An EMT or Fireman could probably carry and use it for years before needing to sharpen it.

A civilian carrying it in the car for emergency use would probably never need to sharpen it.

Rounded serrations cut fabric - clothing, seatbelts, airbags, etc. - better than pointed serrations.

Rounded serrations won't grab, bind or hang up in fabric as typical pointed serrations sometimes do.

Pointed serrations are better than rounded for cutting most materials, including rope, but won't work as well on flexible fabrics.

Attached a bright orange Rescue marker to it too :)
