Does Leatherman still have them?
on: October 06, 2009, 03:18:50 PM
I have been wondering if Leatherman still has the dies and tooling for all of the retired tools? I would enjoy seeing a big run of retired tools just for old times sake.

I know Im a broken record wanting the oldies but man they were the cats meow werent they?

It would be nice, that way we wouldn't have to compete with knife collector/seller's on eBay and other places for NIB retired tools.  But I imagine if they did reissue retired tools it would be some sort of Anniversary thing with special scales.  And of they would cost more due to the limited production.

It's a nice idea isn't it? :)  I have no idea if they would have kept the old tooling but somehow I don't think we'll see any re-issues, perhaps a special PST but even then it seems a long shot to me. :(

Working in a MFG facility in Quality I know we keep a lot of our old tooling. An anniversary run would be cool. Just a thought I had this morning on the way to work.

They did re-issue the PST it was the PST Legacy :) Cabela's sold them but according to what DaveK said about them is that they were put together with left over parts instead of anything new :-\ I would love to see the old tools made again but probably won't happen unless it's an anniversary edition or something :-[ :D

That's right Poncho. The advertising on Cabela's referred to "breaking out the old dies", but in fact the handles had old date stamps when it arrived, so I guess they were old parts.

There's a thread somewhere on her about it.
I used to come here a lot.

I too would love to see this . Original tools with maybe some sort of limited edition /anniversary stamp on them .
Or as I've said before a "Classic" range .

we would all like to see a reissue of a favorite tool but i dought it happens.
like it or not there is a reason those tools were discontinued. it could be as simple as a matter that the old tooling and dies are worn out.
sure... those retired tools were the best thing since TV and the VCR... so was the ford model T but there time has passed.
debatably the tools now are improvements of what came before them. consider also what those MTs cost when new. what did you pay for the PST when new? what does a new kick cost? if you compared the two side by side back in the day of the PST which would you choose?.... really.... all things considered.

Cassettes are so much better.

I grew up on vinyl and 8 tracks and cassette, I was so happy when CD's came out.  I bought a CD player the second year they produced them.  The problem was the CD selection wasn't very good then.  I LOVE digital music.  I have several friends who I jokingly call "musical luddites" that insist analog music sounds better than digital.  They always mention how is has a softer/fuller sound quality.  And I always remind them of the muffled sound of Dolby B and the pops and cracks of vinyl that they seem to be ignoring.   :D :D

Found it!

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,5291.0.html

I've always wondered if they actually did use the old tooling and just forgot to change the date code settings. Kind of nonsensical really but still something I wondered about.

Hi,

To further muddy the waters, my Cabela's Legacy PST is #170 of 500 and has date codes of 0503.
