The Bear really is an interesting tool and the 155 I recieved a short while ago, certainly won't be the last..

I do find that the lock releases make the thing difficult (if not painful) to use, and consequently I tend to go for the non-locking one too.

It's also UK legal, so that helps with the decisions too.

Bear's lock release lever mechanism always struck me as somewhat of an afterthought.

Shall we assume they are busily working on a new and improved version? And the fact that its been under developement now for going on ten years is reason to expect it will be a really earth-shattering design improvement?

I've heard that insurance companies like pics these days as anyone can do a list.

Even better is to record your collection on video. Put a newspaper with the date clearly showing in the video as well. Then keep whatever media your video camera uses in a safety deposit box. Or convert the file to .wmv and burn it on a CD. Whatever media method you chose store it in a safety deposit box. I also like to keep the file type something that can be played on any PC. So I will usually convert my video using Windows Movie Maker to a .wmv file. I haven't done my SAK or MT collections yet but I usually video tape my house at least once a year if not every 6 months. By the way, I love DaveK's blog too.
