Well I am home tonight, she is still in the hospital. I need some good sleep cause I have to work a long shift tomorrow and I will be so busy I won't know what to do with myself. Sleeping in a chair with nurses coming in every couple hours is not my idea of fun. They have determined that it probably was a brown recluse and now it is a staff infection, looks to them like it closely resembles a diabetic ulcer, they won't know 100% until the culture comes back tomorrow. Aside from being on like three different antibiotics and O2, oh and insulin shots she is doing rather well. The wound looks ok, the middle isn't pink anymore and resembles something like cooked meat (it's tan/brown). Continue to keep thinking about us, I will be here when I can be. :-[

Well, they gave her a bone scan yesterday and they don't like the way something looks on the x-rays, they are going to do an MRI on it today to eliminate any confusion. Infection looks better but some of the redness has spread, they are bringing in someone else for a second opinion. May have to go into surgery to move some dead tissue, if the infection has moved into the bone and it's bad they may have to amputate a toe, but that is worse can scenario. Oh and get this, the culture they did of her foot on sunday, they lost it...the lab never even got it, he figures she has resistant staff anyways and will continue to treat her as such. This pic is what it looked like yesterday.

Suddenly living in the far reaches of the frigid north (where there are no brown recluses) doesn't seem so bad. :(

Got her from the hospital this evening after work, see still alot of healing and she has two appointments for her foot next week but at least she is out of the hospital. BTW when they cleaned the wound of dead skin the other day they had to remove alot more than they thought they would  :o Hence the skin grafts

Only view these pics if you have a strong stomach, I am a guy who can handle all kinds of stuff but this takes the cake. Guess it's different when it's the woman you love huh? This is her foot the day after surgery when they removed all the dead skin and the other skin that might have been infected from the bite. When I took the bandage off to change it for her I was horrified, I started to pull away gauze and there was gauze down "in" her skin, the more I pulled away the more horrified and shocked I was. All I wanted to do was cry, this damn spider in conjunction with the doctors have butchered her foot, it's no wonder they want to do a skin graff.  :o :o :o

Hey Bob, I know you asked the question "all this from a spider bite?" I did some googling with google images and found lots of pics like the ones I took. Seems the venom gets down in you and they have to cut out the dead tissue, man it's gross as anything i have ever seen.

Want to hear a miracle though? When the did the bone scan the other day they found something they "did not like" and opted for an MRI the following day, well when they did the MRI and found nothing wrong! Some docs could call that an computer bug or something wrong with the machine, I call it a damn miracle! Her darn foot could have been worse if it had infected the bone like they thought it would, thank god for small miracles. I was so afraid she was going to lose her foot, poor girl says she will never wear sandals again!  :-\

Yes she will now be taking both the bactroban and the levequin (I know the spelling is wrong) till they are satisfied and I don't know when the skin graft is, will probably find out mon when I take her to the foot doctor. Thanks everyone, things I would think would be much worse if not for your prayers.
