Moleskin is oiled cardboard, so I'd guess not nearly as durable as leather.

I think there are a lot of hype for the brand, there are a lot of others that's comparable quality and lower price.

I picked up this little brown suede notebook the other weekend.  Nice item but no idea what I'll do with it  no search function ;)

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I guess you're right, there are cheaper alternatives. Although, one thing makes Moleskine my favorite: no saints. By that I mean that there are just numbers, days, weeks and months, nothing else. I know you may find it funny, and I understand that, but believe me, it isn't that simple to find here in Italy something that is not religion related.

You know I probably would too, if only my handwriting isn't too awful to fit a notebook that well made.   :P

I'll have to try one sometime and see about the hype. I went to see if Walmart had some but all they had was leather ones.

Just bought a plain slim Moleskin from W.H.Smith's,so I thought i'd get the thread moving again  :D
These are great little notebooks. This will probably live in my Maxped organizer. I want one of the larger ones though for meetings and such.

I agree that there is a ton of hype due to the historic nature of the brand, but..

I own one hard cover plain lined Moleskine, and I love it. It is a question of "fit and finish"... these are well crafted and made from quality materials.. the pocket is a useful touch.. as is the elastic band and the page mark.

So while there are cheaper alternatives, I don't always want to be ruled by cost and carry something "cheap".

My suggestion is that if you intend the filled book to be kept, then use a Moleskine. If you intend to just jot things down and then toss it, go for cheap.

Mine is a book in progress, so having something I enjoy handling and carrying motivates me to use it.

I had one, but I somehow lost it few months ago...
Just yesterday I received new Moleskine Pocket Ruled Notebook, it's great.
My two favorite pocket notebooks are Moleskine and Rite in the Rain.

I have had a softback one with me in a cargo trouser pocket for the 1.5 years I have been at university.... the same one.  Yeah, I'm a brilliant student like that  ::) .

they are great little notebooks, but most of my notes are done on my laptop.  They are great for little notes and lists though, and I doubt that any normal notebook would have stood up to what I have put it through.
