Water Bottle Help - Klean Kanteen Wide Mouth
on: October 17, 2009, 11:46:13 AM
I'm currently looking for a new bottle to replace my Nalgene bottle.

I am leaning towards a metal bottle as I can see to be more versatile when I choose to go out hiking/bush walking with it. At the moment I am really digging the Klean Kanteen's. I have read some really great reviews on them and their ethics. I am really keen on the 40oz wide mouth bottle. They aren't in Australia yet (and doubt they will in major shops) and they are kind of new in the market of wide mouth bottles.

I am wanting to know if anyone has used this bottle or has some ideas/opinions on it. Also will the GSI SS cups be able to fit on the bottom?

Thanks
[

Sorry, I stick to Nalgeens as the stainless steel bottles always made the water taste like metal...

I wonder why...

I have Nalgene widemouth and narrowmouth bottles (with BPA and BPA free, but do not really care), Camelbak Better Bottles and SIGG brand aluminium bottles. Prefer the Nalgene, for the Camelbak system is hard to clean, and I like my bottles to be translucent. But if I ever get a chance to get a Kleen Kanteen Steel bottle here, I guess I would give it a try, for I like the look.

I've got the 27 ounce Klean Kanteen. Great bottle. The mouth is wide enough for ice cubes, the contruction is solid, and I don't get a metallic taste. As an added bonus, you can grab it by the neck and use it as an impomptu impact weapon!

I have all sorts of bottles...SIGG, Nalgene, Guyot, Kleen Kanteen, Laken, blah, blah, blah...

...but I find myself going back to the widemouth liter bottles that soda and iced teas come in...for both outdoors and EDC purposes. They are readily available since I drink Sweet tea and Mountain Dew by the liter :P and hold up to freezing well. Plus they are disposable/recyclable when they get too battered or manky...and not a big investment if lost or forgotten.

I've got a Sigg oval & a kleen canteen, sorry no info on the 40oz. Both are stainless & don't flavor water, but will hold the flavor of coffee if you don't wash 'em good.  The Sigg's powdercoat is coming off & doesn't have a user friendly spout, therefore has been pushed out of rotation. The Kleen canteen is used everyday. I use it for ice water during the day & coffee at night. The only downside is the mouthpiece has a flow valve that makes a very annoying sound when you drink from the spout. If you can get past the racket, it's a nice bit of kit.

Tinnie...

I have two GSI Bottle cups and they are too small to fit on my Guyot steel bottles and BPA free Nalgenes.  The GSIs only fit my old Lexan Nalgene bottle. I believe the Guyot bottles are the same as the steel Nalgene.

I ended up buying Olicamp Space Saver cups for those bottles. They look pretty much the same at first glance, but the Olicamp has stamped graduated markings on the side.

Best Nalgene bottle accessory ever?......the Humangear capCAP

The 40oz Klean Kanteen Wide is listed as 3.5" wide - LINK

The Nalgene stainless is "approximately" 3.5" wide - LINK
