EDC Pairings
on: October 31, 2009, 05:14:47 PM
When i frist came to MTO i had a old Wave and a linerlock. Then i bought a Kick and a Climber and that was a good combo. I bought more MTs and i like them but then i started buying SAKs!!! at frist i started buying large ones but found them to be too heavy and bulky. Then i started collecting smaller SAKs liker Waiters, Tinkers, spartans, Mechanic and 58mm SAKs etc. You get the idea three layers or less. Now i keep them in a cigar box and i pick a pair to carry for the  day. For me it is more comfortable to carry two smaller tools than one big tool and i can pick the tools i take according to that days need. I still have a large SAK and MT near by in my EDC bag. Am i crazy or have to many toys. This has been working out well for me.

*points to .sig*

Part of my EDC are a MT Cruch and a SAK Super Tinker.  I used to think two tools was too many, but since doing it anyway, I've come to appreciate having both of them.  Sometimes you just need a blade, which is what the SAK offers; sometimes you think you just need a blade, but then you need a screwdriver to pry; and sometimes you need more.  I'd be hard pressed to go back to just carrying just one at a time.

When I'm not carrying a Charge Ti or something my favourite pair up is a Paratool and a Rambler or my modded Cadet.

I need scissors with me but a lot of my legal EDC MTs don't have them so a SAK is the perfect solution to this irritating conundrum!   8)

It's certainly my habit to carry two (or more  :-[) smaller tools rather than one larger one.  Typically a 91mm SAK, a 58 or 74mm SAK and my Squirt P4.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

My typical EDC involves three on-person tools:  a SwissTool Spirit X on my belt, an Explorer Plus in a pocket, and a Rambler on my keys.  Granted, my bag is another story; it has a Ranger and a Kick (soon to be replaced with a SwissTool) in my small emergency kit.

Oh, and split between on me and in my bag, there's also my car key and remote, which holds a Broker. ^^;

All good ideas.

There's an old thread here about SAK/Multi carry combinations:

Main tool: Swisstool RS on the belt. (Sometimes carry an original Leatherman Supertool.)

Secondary:  Victorinox Super Tinker or Victornox Tinker Small in the front pocket.

I used to pair a Safari Hunter with a Knifeless Fuse and still recommend that as a great combo.  Nowadays I don't tend to carry SAK's anymore  :-\ and I carry an Atwood and a folder (Buck Stockman ATM) and find that suits me better.
I'm back!!

I can't believe I am going to be saying this (gulp!) but I don't actually have a use for them  :-\.  Blade wise, I'd sooner have a folder, I never use a can opener, I have an Atwood for a bottle opener, I have no use for saws or magnifying glasses or fish scalers, I always have a Knifeless Fuse for file, scissor, plier and driver duities and I have tweezers on my keys.  I just don't carry them anymore.  I'm sure it'll all change again though.  :D
I'm back!!

I haven't carried a SAK for over a year now. The tools on a full sized multi tend to be bigger, stronger and more capable, and I generally know if I'm going to need a corkscrew!

When I finally land a UKPK ( and / or the other Spydie that's name escapes me for the moment ) I see no pocket time for any of my SAKs until all my multis have been confiscated :D

I think it's blade size could worry some people.  Fantastic SAK though and one I am sure I will carry again soon.

I've recently started pairing my Juice S2 with a Vic Camper when I'm off duty. For some reason I find this combo to be a better edc option than carrying only my Juice Pro. I have 3 blades instead of 1 and I know we all agree you can never have too many blades. Plus with the exception of a file I pretty much have all the bases covered. I have the solid pliers, scissors and good drivers on the S2 and the Camper gives me the saw, awl, corkscrew plus tweezers and toothpick. Also the can opener and cap liter on the Camper is way better than on the S2.

Well, that was a week ago, before I got this Kydex sheath for the Soldier :D

Anyway, you say "incite the swiss mob" like it's a bad thing  :P
