Stanley-rebranded SwitchPlier, or a knock-off?
on: November 10, 2009, 06:32:00 PM
At the gun show -and I'm just now remembering this - I came across two new in packages SwitchPliers (or looked to be), but they were in Stanley packaging, and looked to be maybe half or a quarter of the size of the one pictured in the MT.org article.  Were the knock-offs, or the real deal, and my size comparison was off? XD

It's not a SOG.  I don't have the full story, but as I understand it, SOG sold the design to Stanley who made a really really cheapo version of it.  Reports of it's reliability vary, but pretty well all agree that it's not a very good tool.

The patent number on the Stanley SL40 , miniature(tiny) version of the SwitchPlier is the same used with the SOG SwitchPlier. So the Stanley is not a knock off but a legitimate version. My new one has the bluntest blade I have ever come across on a new tool  :o , a 'safety blade' perhaps  :P :D :D

You mena the one that fell apart in his hands the first time he tried opening it?

I suppose with all the pieces spread out it's just like having more of it to love....
