Wenger Tool Chest Plus

I came home from work and got another one of those mail slips letting me know that something is awaiting me at the local Postal Outlet. After picking it up, I found that the Wenger Tool Chest Plus came in.

Now this is one huge SAK.













I was taken aback at the thickness of this model. Likewise, I found there were a few things that I had never seen before.  I found the pliers ingenious as it is a mini slip joint. Likewise, the universal wrench was appreciated, albeit for very small nuts. The magnifying glass is a typical Wenger combo flat head screwdriver. I prefer the Victorinox implementation because of its larger size even though it is limited at doing only one thing. The orientation tool on the Wenger is rather thick. The mini compass is an odd feature, as it has a rotatable bezel. I would hate to have to depend on this as I am uncertain of its accuracy.

I was curious to see how the Wenger stacked against a Victorinox SwissChamp.


The Victorinox is 91mm in length. The Wenger is 85mm in length.

Wow that's a thick compass layer. Now imagine if they ditch that and made the plier that thick instead.

To me, the S557 is the useable version of the Tool Chest plus.  No magnifier, no compass, fish scaler or file, but everything else that is goodness.

that is something with that shield and the name that I don't like....
IT'S A NICE KNIFE INDEED but with some "But" explanations..... ( 2 above )
and YES a BIG PLIERS would be a nice inovation....

The back spring issue seemed common in older Wenger SAK's I believe.

Thanks for the heads up. If I do  and a Wenger goes ""PING"", I shall  and  myself repeatedly. 

M.TEX, Victorinox is the better knife, but Wenger makes the more interesting models out there. I am growing in my appreciation of Wenger as time goes on.

I seem to like wengers more and more.
The wenger magnifing glass what width equvilant is it? like saw width? main blade with? etc

adding a vic phillips/mag to a VicSak makes it considerably chubbier, if it fit say in a metal saw slot you have room for a backspring tool and it would be slimer

The Tool Chest Plus is pretty cool. I'd be all over it if Wenger came out with a version minus the big plastic thing. Without the big plastic thing, it looks like it would be roughly Swiss Champ size, which is very usable.

Interesting knife and nice pictures.  The compass is interesting.  I'm not so sure I like the look of the magnifying glass though.  One thing about the Wenger Traditional series is the little chain they add before they put on the key ring.  I've got a couple Wenger's that on it and I almost feel like cutting it off.

The pliers on the Wenger appear to be thinner than the Vic.
