Vic 111 mm Cap Lifter/pry tool is awesome
on: November 12, 2009, 04:48:36 PM
I've been going around adjusting the new hydrants.  If they run slightly when shut off, I have to loosen the lock bolt, lift the handle and pry down the rod to seat the valve deeper.  Normally, I use a Leatherman and put the pliers head in the slot to pry down on the rod.

However, since I had my OH Locksmith on me, I decided to try out the caplifter in that roll.

I am pleased to say, that even reefing on the caplifter, it held up extremely well, with no damage to the tool at all.

Surprisingly stout tool.

If you need serious prying force, the Vic 111 mm tool is your highly capable tool.

Good to know.  I've not done any prying with my Forester as yet, but it certainly feels stout enough. :tu:
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

When we were remodeling our bedroom I used the pry end quite a bit, opening paint cans, taking apart furniture.  I came close to popping off a scale, but I was putting basically my whole body into it (180 lbs).  I really should have been using a dedicated tool, but it was one of things that needed done right then.  Simply squeezed the scale back on, and it was good to go.

Good to know it'll take major torque abuse like that without permanent damage.

I've used mine to pry some stubborn tops off of paint cans and such, but came nowhere near to applying full body weight!

Also like the way that it locks up good and tight with the liner lock.  Being locked makes it feel much more capable than the same slipjoint style implement on my Tinker.

The New Soldier has pretty much become my "Tactical" of choice , low weight penalty , good price point , mega utility .
