Swiss Business tool?
on: May 21, 2007, 04:55:18 AM
Seen here.

Anybody have one?

I was thinking about getting one for my Mother for her upcoming birthday. She works in an office environment and is slowly being converted into a multi-tool EDCer.

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

They came out a number of years ago and were probably one of the things that Wenger tried in a last ditch effort to keep from going under.  Unfortunately for them, it wasn't a popular seller, and they can be found at many retailers for much lower prices if you look around.

It's an interesting tool, and you can also get a nice case for it, and, yes, even official Wenger staples!  I don;t have one myself, but I do have the case, which fits my Tool Chest Plus quite nicely.

It always stuck me as solution to a problem that doesn't exist.  What I mean is this, I carry my Cybertool because I often need various tools in the knife for odd jobs here and there.  It's handy to always have a scissors, a small pliers, blades, and screwdrivers with me all the time in any situation.  While it isn't the best scissors, or pliers, or screwdrivers that I own, it isn't practical to carry a full size of any of those things with me 24/7.  It is practical to EDC my Cybertool.

But what's the primary tool that the Business Tool has one it that isn't on other SAKs?  The Stapler of course.  And how often do you really run into situations, on the road away from desk at work or at home, when you need a stapler?  Those times will be very few and far between.  And if I'm a person who DOES run into that, I can get a SAK and a small stapler that are far more practical and just as easy to carry around as the Business Tool.  It just doesn't fill a need.

That said, if I found one for a good price, I'd buy it and probably use it, purely for the geek factor.

I think it's probably a "show off" piece for the desk more than anything else. The true Vic aficionado  usually wants everything related.

Precisely.

When my desk scissors died, I started looking around for a good deal on one of these.  Finally found it online for less than the $70 (around $50 with shipping).  When it arrived yesterday, I toosed out the stapler too. (Well actually gave it back to the main office).

The scissors are MUCH nicer than my old pair.  If one compares to pricing for a nicer hole punch, stapler and scissors,  it's only a little bit more expensive.

But MUCH MUCH more geeky  :D

When the Business Tool came out,a lot of people sneered at it,but I figured from the start,it would be terrific for people that have their vehicle for their office.

I bought one on eBay about a year ago as a collecton piece. The price was not outrageous, but still about double what one would pay for the collection of dedicated stapler, scissors, hole punch, etc.. The design is pretty cool, though, and if you can afford it, I'd say go for it (i.e., e-mail Tim! :D).

You may also have to buy a cable lock though, so that it does not walk away from your mom's desk. I wonder why Wenger did not put that laptop lock slot on the Business Tool...

It fits right into my home office.  :sak:
Which means it actually gets used.

Where can one get staples that will fit this once I run out of the ones that came with it?   :o
