Swiss Cards
on: November 22, 2009, 02:47:59 AM
OK, I put a bunch of new Swiss Cards up on EDCS a week or so back and they saw no interest whatsoever.  I know they have advertising on them but I figured they'd make great candidates for chucking in BOBs and PSKs  ???

So be straight with me folks, I thought I'd put them up at a pretty good price, especially if you're this side of the water, am I wrong?

I've just relisted them here.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

EDCSource is harder to use (in current form).  Search is hard.

Wish I'd seen this earlier.  I bought 2 Quattros which are awesome tools.

Hard to use?  Really?  Please elaborate so we can try to make it work better.

Also, be aware that there is an upgrade to the software that we haven't implemented yet as we are trying to ensure that it works before we go live with it.  It will drastically change the way the site looks and slightly alter the way it works....  But nothing so bad that it will be hard to figure out!

EDCS certainly has teething issues.  That's to be expected though, it'll take quite some time to get things just so.  I'm going to start jotting down a note of things as they occur to me :tu:

Well, off the top of my head, the ads at the top make it difficult when searching whether the featured ads are part of the search findings.

The current bid is difficult to find, since it's in the same size font as all the other data.

And finally, you can't see what the current bid is (on the front page) without opening the item, which cuts down on the number of impulse buys.

Edit to add: (Just went there to look...) Because there are so many knives and multitools, they should probably be listed in separate subcategories.(Just a thought)...

I guess I'm saying it's hard to window shop there.  :-\

We will definitely look at all of those, but there are multiple sub categories there, and you can browse through them.  I will be adding more sub categories as they become necessary.

If you want to look at knives and tools, click on knives and tools.  Under the six auctions that come up is a list of the sub categories- it's on the left.  Choose which sub category you want and there's all the offerings for your choice.

I like EDCSource so far. I think it mainly needs more listings and eyes, which will take time and a little promotion.

Here is some feedback based upon my own experience with it:

- I'd like to see more listings per page. Perhaps you could add a drop down selector as used on other sites?
- I find the featured items at the top of the pages very intrusive. I'd rather not see them at all, but they could be made much, much smaller. There is a lot of wasted screen real estate up there.
- The log out time is extremely short. I'd like to stay logged in at least for a day. Perhaps an option could be added for this as used on other sites?
- When logging in, I would like to be returned to the page I was viewing, rather than being redirected to my account page.
- I'd like to have the Member's Area control panel always accessible at the top of the page. Perhaps a column could be added for it on the right side of the page?

As I said, there is an update that will address many of your concerns.  Hopefully the new upgrade will be online soon and we can start picking it apart!  :D

upgrade should help.

I'll hopefully have a chance to get it sorted soon.

Thanks for chiming in Micah.... as for everyone else, if you know anyone looking for a "no BS" type site for buying and selling, please feel free to send them to EDCSource!

I have to say that I love the RSS feed
(I just keep a look out for items denominated in GBP or EUR for "local" stuff)

Oh, I forgot to mention this earlier:  could we have an option where all prices are converted to a single denomination, to make it easier when comparing prices?

Does the xe.com converter not work for you? We can manually add conversion rates, but we'd be forever updating them (a job I don't think any of us wants at the moment...) Lets see how things go once I get the upgrade in place first. I've just polished off a client project that was taking up most of my time (thankfully at last!) which means I should have time to finally get the upgrade patched/tuned/sorted and ready to apply. If I can get my Spanish homework done...

It does work for me, fine, but I'm just one of those types of people who likes everything the same on the page; hmm, is there a way to link the xe.com converter to the prices, that way no manual inputting would be necessary; as xe.com changes, the converted prices change, too. :)

I think a very handy update would be to add postage options for Europe as a block.  I don't know what it's like for other countries but from the UK its the same rate to ship to France as it is to Ireland as it is to Denmark.

Along those lines it would be good if you could still have a specific country rate so that you could offer a flat rate across Europe but have that over ridden for specific countries.

Why would I want to do that?  Some countries postal services are more reliable than others so I might be happy offering normal airmail for most but certain countries I'd want to only offer a tracked service to.

Just an idea :)

Also I'm still not getting the PP confirmed address attached to the payment.  And whilst that's fine at the moment whilst selling to people I've already dealt with, I would get a bit twitchy doing so to someone just coming across the site and making a purchase.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

The buyer's address shows up on the invoice, or, if you don't send the invoice, you can see it by clicking on the spot that says "Message Board."

Yes it does, but unless its attached to the Paypal notice there is no way you can be protected by Paypal's seller protection policy.  As I said, no problem whilst dealing with those I've had prior trades with but in the long term, not good  :-\

The new version has improvements to the invoicing system, including combined shipping on various items. The existing mod for shipping will be lost in the update as there is a new shipping setup in the new version and they are not compatible (yet).

It would be great if the mod system was a bit more friendly to work with like the SMF system, as upgrading would be a lot less painful.
