Farscape and Firefly are both worth watching.

+1, both excellent sci-fi and well worth watching.  They're both hilarious as well :)

In a slightly childish way I really enjoy Star Wars The Clone Wars animated series.  Good fun :)

I like all the Star Treks. Babylon 5 was really good and something you could watch in a short period of time.

Firefly and Space Above and Beyond both tragically never lived a very long life... I recommend both.

I never watched the entire SG-1 all the way through, more like hit and run, although I do have all the EPs to watch now, just haven't found a moment to start the marathon... we watched SGA as it was aired... liked it quite a bit apart from the occasional filler EP. currently following SGU, and not feeling it... 9 episodes in, and hoping they cancel it in favour of bringing back SGA...

As far as Star Trek goes, this has also been hit and run, I didn't like enterprise... never gave it much of a chance after the cheeseball intro...

Wife & I just finished watching BSG, we had held off the last 10 EPs of the last season until recently... awesome.

Star Wars Clone wars cartoon is indeed very well done. Currently season 2 is airing...

I have all the new DrWho to watch, I've been told it's rather good, and it's in the same predicament as SG-1... when to start it. I have however watched the first two seasons of Torchwood, and have the (3rd) mini series in the queue.

I attempted to watch Babylon5 while it was on TV, and while in general I liked it... wasn't a dedicated follower... (pre-internet VCR days...) Also never managed to catch more than a couple episodes of Farscape, or Andromeda (Captain Hercules! :P )

There's a new V airing now... it has Morena Baccarin in it... (stargate sg1/firefly) liking it so far... considering it's only 4 episodes deep...

Also watched the first season of Warehouse13, sorta X-files meets Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider type thing... not bad, but not the most amazing show on TV.

I find Sanctuary (amanda tapping, SG-1) quite entertaining, definitely a bit different... kind of a twist on Men in Black...

Legend of the Seeker - kind of a nice fantasy series, I've heard lots of people say it's not as good as the books as they are much darker, but it is being made by Disney... and it is made for TV... season 2 just started a few weeks back, yet to jump back into it.

Heroes - was very good at the beginning... fanstastic to marathon (watch several EPs in a row) I haven't been keeping up since about season2... rumours are it's gone downhill quite a bit... still queued on the old internet VCR...

I have the vintage Battlestar Galactica on DVD... started rewatching it some time ago, when the new one was on a break... and never got back to it... funny stuff tho... lol

I just finished both, SG1 is way better than SGA, can't say why exactly, just like the character and stories better.

I agree with you there about SGA.

I'm trying to watch the new SGU at the moment but I'm still not sure about it. I like the darkness it has but not sure about Robert Carlisle. He just isn't nice to watch or something, maybe because he often plays absolute psychos in other things.

I just couldn't get into SGA at all, it just felt like I'd seen it all before. :-\  SGU I feel is slightly less standard fare, and while it's not what you'd call "pacey" I really like that they don't seem to be in a hurry to bring in a baddie for them to fight.  Just them against their situation.

In SGA the wraith were a great enemy... or even the replicants... still lots of room there... so far SGU has been a bore... obviously what is a crew that's not meant to be a spaceship crew (let alone one with ancient tech) going to do against high tech enemies? That being said, something finally seems to be happening... very slow starter... maybe they're aiming for 10 seasons... imho, less is more... jam it all in there and keep us hooked until the end. Not saying it should be short, but we're looking at the 20 year plan at this rate.

I liked babylon 5 first time around but think it might be a bit dated now, and watch out as it had a pretty rought time getting made so some series are better than others.  I remember series 5 was pants.

Farscape is great but finished half way thorugh without a good plot resolution as it was canciled.

I'll also vote for firefly as the movie allowed Josh to finish up the left over plot lines nicely but he really should have been allowed to make more, it's another great show canciled before its time.

No one so far has mentioned Buffy and Angel, not space scifi but I think you'll like them if you liked BSG. Both good shows but Angel is a bit more mature and better for it.

big Trek fan here, liked all the variations, that said Babylon 5 was my favorite

The gritty, real life aspect of B5 was refreshing, after the Utopian world that the Federation represented.

Know what you mean.  When I first watched SGU, I had this feeling of disgust when I saw Carlisle, even though I didn't know who he was.

Looked him up on IMDB and saw that he had played an evil, child prostitute traffiking, Russian pimp in a movie I had seen a few years back.

My subconscious must have retained the memory of his face as someone disgusting and evil.

Yeah, unfortunately I have to say that this series is just nothing, a hollow shell if you will, compared to the books. I own, read, reread, and rereread the entire series, and it is just such a masterfully written saga, that the show just has nothing but the characters in common, in my mind.

Well I'm watching series premier of Babylon 5 right now. It's painful to watch to be honest, effects and makeups are really really lame, acting wasn't exactly good either. When I started watching SG1 it was like "oh sweet, I like this show", but this is more "oh man, I hope it gets better, fast".  :(

How about Blake's 7

Classic British TV, and the whole series shot for 10 quid  :P I use dot love it though, when I was too young to know better.

Space 1999 was another one in that vein.
I used to come here a lot.

yeah, the special effects in B5 get a lot better in season 2, if you liked DS9 you should like it given DS9 was basically a rip off of B5.

once you finish watching B5 you might want to watch "crusade" too, it was a spin off series, not quite as good, but still good.

other suggestions:
Andromeda
Farscape
Firefly
Earth: Final Conflict
ReBoot
seaQuest DSV
Mobile Suit Gundam (if you don't mind animation)

Yup season 2 is where the on going plot gets going there's a real change of pace.

Unfortunately if you don't watch season one you'll lose most of the references.  I loved this but have never managed to get my wife to watch it, it's a bit of marmite show

I don't usually read science fiction but a friend hooked me up with "Battlefield Earth" which I'm
enjoying.  Don't rent the movie though apparently it's one of the worst.  :-\

maybe THE worst :/
I've watched awful movies, but no one with so stupid plot, so many plot holes, so many wasted effects and so on.
even Travolta is at the very bottom of his acting.
