Nice and not a bad price either for a unit such as this.

I was very close to trading for its little brother the Chicago.  But the trade was uneven and he didn't want to add anything.  I do want a Cat though, very hard to beat that price for everything you get.

Indeed, the Chicago and Cat are the little (and much cheaper) brothers of the first sage. Beautiful, inexpensive and sharp as hell - just amazing!

I have had one for a while now. Nice small EDC. I really like it. But the quality is nothing as good as it's more expensive brother the Sage.

In that picture it looks like the blade is out of proportion to the handle?  Is it just me?

The only other pic I seem to have handy is this one.

Thanks Prime!  Yeah, it is.  I don't know what it is, but I seem to be a bit picky about blade:handle ratio.  That blade looks a bit too short to look "good" with the handle, IMO.  I'm sure that doesn't do a darn thing to the quality or performance of the knife, just a quirk of mine.  I know that a lot knife blades are shorter than the handles in general, but not all seem that way to my bizarre mind.  :D  Thanks for the pic!  It's still a good looking knife.

The blade was intentionally kept small to adhere to some local laws (boston if I recall for cat)

That's right and Chicago for Chicago :D. The Cat fits the hand really well and is very comfortable to cut with. If the handle was any smaller I don't think it would feel as good in the hand.

Good point.  I totally understand that.  I'm partial to smaller knives myself.  That's why Tenacious was too big for me.  In a folder, the Saver Salt is about my limit size wise.  The dragonfly is my favorite non-SAK small knife.  It's a perfect little knife IMO.  Love spydies!  If the newer dragonfly with wire clip were just a tad cheaper I'd probably have a couple of them by now.  :)

Be aware that the fit and finish on the Cat and Chicago is probably closer to the fit and finish of a Byrd than that of a USA or Japanese Spyderco.

Some pics posted over in the Spyderco forums show these knives as being a tad rough around the edges.

I have read some posts about guys saying that the fit and finish isn't as good as some had expected. I would say it fine. My example looks good.  Just as good as my other Spydies that are made in Japan, and Golden. I would go as far has to say the nicest Spyderco I have is the Sage I which is made in Taiwan, same as the Cat. The quality on Sage is amazing. I think allot of guys were expecting the Cat to be a perfect smaller replica of the Sage which it's not. The liners on the Sage are perfectly polished. The CF scales have a basket weave texture to them. Something I think Spyderco calls peel-ply CF. On the Cat the liners are bead blasted and the CF is polished smooth.
