Alox SAK with a Bale
on: December 13, 2009, 03:04:19 AM
I don't have any SAKs with bales - so I need to fix this!

Cheap is the main thing I'm looking for, as it will be a user, rigged to my walking gear.
I used to come here a lot.

Best bet is a Wenger SI then. They are still being produced and are a real good buy comparatively speaking.

Have you thought about adding a bale to one of your existing SAKs?

Hehe - very good :D

Have you thought about adding a bale to one of your existing SAKs?

I hadn't actually  I quite like the alox SAKs I have already too - might just be easier to buy or trade for one.

I think I'd prefer a Vic tbh - but the SI is a good 'plan B'.

Is it only me then? Am I the only one that snaps my SI blade closed on the bail? I love this knife, but it is constantly getting notched from that cursed bail. >:( I'll bet I've redressed the edge about five times now.

I do like the idea of a bail, I just wish they had put it on the other end. :(

I can see how that would get annoying, but for the intended purpose of this one - I reckon I could live with it.

Hang a lanyard on the bail... or just pay more attention when closing it!  :P

Sequence Of Events When Closing A Wenger SI:

1 - make sure bail is clear of blade opening
2 - casually fold knife up against pant leg
3 - realize blade has not folded up completely
4 - glance down to see why
5 - utter colorful enunciations

repeat at every usage :P

Ummm... it wouldn't be useful at all on the other end, though... :P

Okay, so leave the bail where it is, and just move the knife to the other end. :)

That's why I wouldn't buy an Wenger SI because of that.

I used to have a couple of Case Jr Scouts that had that same style bail and it would fold forward just as I closed the main blade causing the edge to rollover. It was annoying enough that I got rid of them.

You could always buy one, remove the bail and then send it to me as I want a bail to add to mine.  :D

Alternatively, as I did to my Farmer, remove pin and replace with tube, thread through tube for lanyard attachment rather than a bail.  Best of both worlds ;)

So we've had one suggestion in two pages so far then  ::)

Maybe I should rephrase the question:

Which Victorinox 93mm Alox knives are commonly (and cheaply) available with bales? And has anyone got one to sell or trade me?

I used to come here a lot.

None.  If you want a cheap bale, buy a Wenger SI, sorry  :-\

Seems like they could cast a "stop" lug into the alox scale that would prevent the bail from rotating in front of the knife. >:(

(sorry, I just can't let it go now) ::) :D
