You know your kids are growing up when...
on: December 13, 2009, 03:20:51 PM
You know you kids are growing up when you have to start password protecting your pc. All this time it's always been set so the monitor turns off after inactivity but now (especially in the past week) I keep catching the oldest (7) playing on the computer with webkinz or something without permission. I thought I was raising the kids good enough that I would not need to password it but I guess kids will be kids and they will always push the envelope. How many of you folks out there have kids and have come to the same realization I have?  :-\

Yup - that's how it goes.

Eventually, you'll bow to the inevitable and get them their own PCs :D

I used to come here a lot.

I have a linux box that acts as a proxy server running squid and DansGuardian. DansGuardian is the content filter for all the bad stuff they could accidentally run into. It helps a lot. The best filter though is still mom and dad. I still ask my kids what they're looking at when they are surfing plus the machines reside in the family room and not in their own rooms.

You really need to keep kids away from internet porn, especially boys.  It was always a rite of passage, at least for my generation, to come up with convincing ways to get the guy at the 7-11 to sell you Playboys.  I'd hate to rob kids of that important life lesson!

hell when my kids are of age, they will have their own account and a set log on time of which they will be able to use the box.  and like others it will not be in their rooms, but out where they can be seen.  trust me, my fluffy kittens will be looked at on a different system they cant touch :-)

oh and for those who still pay,  you are such a dork for paying for what can be found for free.
