How much (ugh) snow have you got?

we still have no snow, it is however currently -2C, -10C with windchill. And the wind is NASTY...

It does make me laugh so much that for a country that has a lot of "weather" we have no idea how to cope with it. 3 weeks of snow and 1000's of schools are closed and the roads are sheet ice because we've run out of grit again

Not that I'm complaining. I'm loving the chance to curl up on the sofa in my 'clothes that shouldn't see the light of day' with the dog (in her jumper) and work on my laptop. Cabin fever is only slightly starting to creep in now so I may have to brave the roads and go into the office next week.

No where near this much. You may see some white patches on the satellite pics but not a total white out.

By the way, this place is called the UK. The top bit is called Scotland, the middle bit is called England and the large lump sticking out to the left is called Wales. Stick with the UK and no-one will get offended

That sucks though, I imagine there's places there that may never even get snow and have no plows etc. and look to be getting dumped on right now. I complain about the almost 2 feet of snow we have, but we get that every year and it's just a part of every day life. Can't imagine how an entire nation that hardly gets much snow at all is coping with an American Midwest style winter.

How fun.. even my little side street has been plowed and salted (I frakin HATE salt BTW. You can have ours) several times already this morning. A whole nation with almost no preparedness for snow being covered by he horrible white stuff... I'll bet it's kinda fun in it's own way.

Avalanche!

Actually, out in Hyalite Canyon where I was last week, there have been many avy's and a couple of deaths.  One guy was swept 1/4 mile downhill on his snowmobile and buried.  He had an avy-beacon, and his buddies started digging, but it took 45 minutes to dig him out.  Not a good outcome either...

In one of many many trips to Colorado (I really gotta find a way to move out there) I saw an area where they had recently done a controlled Avalanche. Even though it was intentional and controlled, and had happened probably a couple weeks prior, seeing the scale of the aftermath was terrifying. You don't really "get" it seeing TV footage. When your staring at such a MASSIVE area that's been simply swept away, it's really awe inspiring. Ever since seeing that, every time I see a video of an Avalanche on TV it gives me the heebeejeebies thinking about the raw power that's really there. It's scary stuff.

Yeah, we've had a couple of deaths as well.   I'm often critical of people taking the Scottish hills too lightly, but it seems these guys really were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I love looking at satelite pics, and that is one of the coolest I've seen in a long time!

It honestly doesn't bother me, which is just as well as I've been out in it for hours at a time

But when you see all the car's getting stranded because people are too stupid to drive, and it in turn blocks the roads and cause's everything to grind to a halt, it get's a bit annoying really

On a serious note though, modern cars seem to be genuinely crap at driving in snow/ice, even when driven by competent drivers Wide tires and comparatively too much power I'd say where the biggest problems.

me? I don't drive, but I have a pair of extreme cold weather boots (micky mouse boots )

Its been quite nice being able to go for a walk in the countryside without a load of namby pamby touristy types around.

Between the melting and settling, plus what new stuff has fallen, we still have about 20 inches. But that is about average for my area - same thing every year - so there has been no hardships.

Our sledge is over fifty years old and of the steel frame variety; in light snow conditions it is outperformed by the plastic ones but with the heavier compacted stuff we have now it rules
