Mythbusters
on: June 03, 2007, 06:45:51 PM
Anyone else watch this show?  I have always been a fan of the show but since I didn't have cable until recently I haven't watched it much.  The possibility for watching it was the biggest upshot of dog sitting for my annoying in laws!

Anyways, I know they often use multitools, but it's kind of a challenge to ID them since they usually only flash on the tool for a second while they are doing something else.  Last night I was watching an episode where they attempted to pull an old Mr Bean trick by painting a room with dynamite.  It didn't work, but one of the explosives guys that were helping them had what looked to be a Leatherman Blast or Fuse.  It might have been a Kick, but it looked a little bigger.  As usual, they just showed it for a fraction of a second while they cut the det cord.

If for no other reason, watch this show for the awesome application of multitools!

I caught that show a few times (before our cable got upgraded to super digital cable, which I never learned how to operate)...I never noticed any multis though in the episodes I saw..One where they made crossbows from paper, the one where they made a cannon from a solid tree trunk..another where they made a dummy with a bladder to piss on some high voltage metal.

That Girl they had as a helper was nice looking to; I bet She would appreciate a guys tool collection :multi:

You should see the episode where they run experiments to see if pretty girls fart...

At any rate, I just saw another one where they were testing the Lone Ranger's silver bullets and used what I think was a Surge to cut open some ballistic jelly.

I like to think of it as Jackass but with a point!  ;D

You are right about the girl though.  She certainly is well put together, but believe it or not, I like the show for the show!

There are so many things that they do that I have wondered about, and so many that I wanted to try myself.  If only we had a budget like that here at Multitool.org we could do that kind of thing as well!

I've seen them use both a SOG and a Leatherman, I believe Adam was using the LM and Jamie was using the SOG.  :)

In the ballistics one (one of the clips on their website actually) it was Adam with what I think was the Surge.  It was a one handed serrated blade at any rate.

Mythbusters is indeed a great show. Wouldn't it be great to have a job like that? Even a spot on the crew would be a dream job.

Well that's the myth anyway... we'll have to see if they bust it!

Maybe you can help me with something- I seem to recall a similar show in England a few years ago.  It was pretty good but I don't know what it was called or if it's still on.  Any idea what it is?

I love Scrap Heap Challenge!  Now those are some folks that could use a good multi!

I think Brainiac is the one I was thinking of.  Thanks!

Scrapheap is great, although they do seem to be scraping the barrel for ideas in the new series thats on on Sundays, I wish they'd do more weapons based ones like the mortars the other day.

Just saw Jamie on mythbusters using a SOG Powerplier to extract a bullet from it's casing in order to test the Squib load/split barrel myth.

This is the same episode with them testing seasickness cures, and pick-up truck gas mileage with the tailgate either up or down.

They've got a bunch of clips over at their website, but that one isn't listed.  :(  I'll have to try and catch it on the telly.

I saw Jamie use a SOG Powerlock, and Adam use the LM Charge in the Bullets Fired Up myth.

I'm watching Mythbusters now and they are doing firearms myths.  They just tested the idea of a bullet being fired from one gun directly down the barrel of another.  To try and pry the bullet out, Jamie was using a Gerber Freehand.  He used the bottle opener to pry the chamber open and the pliers to get the bullet out.

Might have been an AutoRecoil...  I'm not as well versed in Gerberology as I'd like.

Thanks to DVR I didn't miss an episode, I have seem virtually all the ones they have ever made, so whenever a marathon comes on I let it record all of them and I just delete the ones I have seem. Great way to keep up on those clever buggers.

BTW today seems to be Man Vs Wild type of marathon, if your into him you should check it out. There is so much debate and discussion between Les and Bear it's crazy! I personally watch them for the pure enjoyment and I do take note of things that "might" become usefull if I am ever stranded in the moab  :multi:
