Def,

Any idea (approximate) when these tool will actually hit the stores?  I wonder if the Micra is going to be phased out now with the introduction of the Style CS?  Are the black sections on the Style and Style CS Zytel or metal?

I should hope they don't decide to finally nix the Micra; it's a wonderful little tool. :/

I totally agree.  In an earlier post I suggested that LM continue to make the PST and Micra as a tradition but just from looking at that Style CS I get the sneaking impression that it's going to be the Micra's replacement.  Especially if the Style CS is all metal.  Hopefully I'm wrong.

Didn't Leatherman try to replace the Micra with the S4? Also, the Style better be good because it is going head to head with the best selling knife of all time.

Mmhmm, they tried and failed.  Yeah, I honestly don't see the Style making it more than a year, personally, against the Classic/Classic SD, and Esquire.  Still, if they want to compete, the Style has to be around the ten dollar mark, which I also don't see. :/

Still, I'm getting one of each; I have a S4 coming on it's way from Amazon, so that rounds out the classic collection.  Now for these, lol.

Wasn't Felinevet selling the Esquire for $4 free shipping? No way the Style is getting anywhere near that. But I'm super excited for the PS4.

That's what it looked like to me, but people wouldn't stop buying Micras! Probably due to the pricing of the Micra v the Squirt I reckon.

Along with the Crunch, the Micra is the only Leatherman tool that's survived from the last century (;)), and loads of tools have been launched and subsequently retired in it's lifetime. You have to think it's days are numbered....

I have to agree with you, at least in regards to the Style.  It looking kick@$$ in that other poster, but here it looks kind of...meh.

I wonder if LM is thinking of doing more "SAK" if the Style turns out to be a success? I mean, it basically seems to be a Classic clone without a toothpick, so why do they try to compete with Vic there. I do not think SAK users of the world are really sitting at home and thinking "damn, if only I could get a rusting SAK..."

I´ll wait for the tools to be released, if the prices are OK i still might get 3 of them, if not all 4.

That has to be pretty much my ultimate pocket tool.   Great job Leatherman.

While some of the others look nice, this is the one I'm going to have to get.

That's not new though. I'm convinced the Juice range was intended to compete with the Swisschamp, Cybertools etc. I did a rough and ready comparison of the Swisschamp and Juice Pro a while back. I was really surprised at how similar they were. Definitely an attempt by Leatherman to gatecrash the SAK market I reckon, and with some success.

I seriously doubt that "SAK users of the world are really sitting at home and thinking 'damn, if only I could get a rusting SAK...'" too, but they might be thinking "it would be nice to have an alternative". Obviously I haven't seen these new LM tools, but I'm guessing that they are going to create a bit of a buzz (look at Gareth's last post)!

Competition is never a bad thing in my book, and it'll give us something new to argue about as a bonus. I'm already drafting the PS4 v Mini Champ thread and poll  :P

I think that sums it up well.  The big bonus for me with LM over Vic is that they do pocket sized pliers.  Vic's SAK pliers aren't even in the same league as a P4, let alone a Juice.

Where I think LM have never been competitive is with their pricing.  I've no idea what the retail will be on the Style but I suspect it'll be a heck of a lot more than a Classic.

I suspect you're right Gareth, and I think that's why the Juice isn't as common as your SAKs.

I think when you look at the construction methods, you can justify a slightly higher price for the Juice, but there must be an element of marketing in their pricing. I.e., fix the price higher, to create the illusion of a superior product. Your average punter will look at the higher priced Juice and conclude that it must be "better" than the cheaper SAK. Not really a new "trick", but a trick none the less!

The ES4 and PS4 are officially on the list for 2010 for me. :D   I'm not sure about the Style Cx.  I like pliers rather than scissors as a main tool.  The BossLady says it would be awesome for braiding horses however....

Really like the PS4, wonder if the scale is still type II aluminum thou. That's the reason I chose Micra over P4, no scratch.

Well I got two micras so even if they discontinue it I'm good for 10 or 20 years.  :D

There does not appear to be any shortage of Micras on this planet. Even if they stop production, I think they will be just as ubiquitous as the PST.

Leatherman Introduces Four New Keychain Survivalists

December 1, 2009, Portland, OR—
This spring Leatherman Tool Group will launch a completely updated set of keychain tools as well as two new models. In an effort to continue expanding both product offerings and price points to consumers everywhere, Leatherman has revised and added to the current line with two updated models—the Squirt® PS4 and ES4—and add two completely new ones—the Style™ and Style™ CS.

The original Squirt models, while extremely functional, required the consumer to choose between scissors- or pliers-based platforms. The new PS4 will have both pliers and scissors and the ES4 will have the handy wire strippers (five gauges in all) as well as scissors.

The new tools being added to the keychain family are the Style and Style CS. Both are based off the wildly popular full-size Skeletool model down to the mini carabiner on the Style CS. This model has spring-action scissors as the centerpiece, a knife, tweezers, screwdriver and nail file. The smaller Style model weighs less than a house key (.08 oz) and features mini scissors, a knife and screwdriver.

All four tools will begin shipping in May of 2010 and be available nationwide and through online retailers. The Squirt and Style models will come in multiple color choices and all four models will be covered under the Leatherman 25-year warranty. MSRP on the Style is $20.00, Style CS $27.00 and both Squirts $40.00.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Oh, the prices are quite good. Guess I´ll have to start looking for a dealer with reasonable shipping charges, for if I take the two styles shipping is likely to be as high as the prices or both tools...
