I don't usually read science fiction but a friend hooked me up with "Battlefield Earth" which I'm
enjoying.  Don't rent the movie though apparently it's one of the worst.  :-\
Isn't that he seriese that's loaded with scientology ideas? I'd be interested to know if the storys any good

My understanding is that L. Ron Hubbard (writer of Battlefield Earth and many others) started out as nothing more than a Sci-Fi writer who then went on to start Scientology.

Well I'm watching series premier of Babylon 5 right now. It's painful to watch to be honest, effects and makeups are really really lame, acting wasn't exactly good either. When I started watching SG1 it was like "oh sweet, I like this show", but this is more "oh man, I hope it gets better, fast".  :(

It get's a little better in season 2

Yup season 2 is where the on going plot gets going there's a real change of pace.

Unfortunately if you don't watch season one you'll lose most of the references.  I loved this but have never managed to get my wife to watch it, it's a bit of marmite show

I've tasted marmite just once. And I understand the parallel with B5.

anybody here countdowning to "the end of time"?

I honestly think I must be the only being in the universe that "doesn't mind" Marmite...

Me and Gareth love the stuff.  :)
I'm back!!

Babylon 5 first and foremost. My all time favorite show. As has been mentioned season 2 is where it picks up. Season 3 is effing great. 4 is pretty decent. Don't bother with season 5, it's a train wreck. Just skip right to the final episode and you'll be fine.

Firefly. In no way should that show have been canceled.

Space: Above and Beyond had it's moments. The effects were really bad and some of the acting was crap. Towards the end it started to get really good though. I still think if they had given it another season it had a ton of potential.

Not entirely Sci-Fi, but Sci-fi-ish, was Jericho. Totally underrated show that deserves more. There's rumors of it becoming a movie in similar fashion as Firefly spawning Serenity.

I liked Enterprise at first, but I found the character development to suck. They tried, but the characters themselves sucked. I kept confusing most of the male characters because they all felt so flat and generic. There was some decentness towards the end though. I know I'm gonna get REALLY crucified, but in many ways Voyager was my fave. It had it's share of problems (most of which are endemic to Trek in general) but there were a lot of high points to it as well. Especially the ones written by Ronald D. Moore (who went on to create the "new" Battlestar Galactica). Janeway can (almost) stand toe to toe with Picard in my book. DS9 towards the end with the Dominion war was really cool, but in so many ways was so copied from Babylon 5 that it irritated me.

I'm also a big fan of SG-1 been watching thru it again on Hulu to catch the eps that I missed/forgot about., never could get into all the other spin-offs though.

The X-Files is obviously a classic, especially the first few seasons, but man did that show fall the Hell apart the last couple seasons. And don't even get me started on the most recent movie that had nothing whatsoever to do with the show. More like a second rate direct to DVD "suspense-thriller" that somebody decided to drop the X-files characters into for no apparent reason.

As for stuff that's currently airing, I love Fringe and V both.

Ooh, good for you mentioning Jericho; I forgot all about it.  Hmm, I still need to get season one, despite having season two; any idea as to if they included those webisodes from season two with the DVD seasons?  I'm not going to start watching the episodes until I have the first season so I can watch them in order. ^^;

You know I havent seen season 2 at all. The only eps I can find online always have the directors commentary so they're unwatchable. Not sure whats included on the DVD release, I had never seen the show till a couple weeks ago when I discovered it available through the internet TV in Windows Media Center on Windows 7.
