Old Wave or New Wave?
on: June 06, 2007, 05:58:36 AM
What's everyones favorite design of the two?  I've only used the old Wave, and it's quickly becoming my favorite multi...I really like the design of the actual plier head.

I avoided the new Wave because of the bit drivers which I don't really like and the diffrent scissor design over the old Wave.  BUT the tools lock and the plier head is supposedly stronger with the oval pivot...

I only have an old wave as well, but I like the bit driver and locking implements.  Of course I hate the scissor design, so I'm not really certain.  The oval plier head might be a benefit, but since I've never broken an old plier head either I couldn't say whether that's a good thing or not.  I am curious enough though, and I'll probably have to get one sooner or later simply because I don't have one yet!

The new wave is slick, but I would love an old wave with a pocket clip  O0 Guess I can't have everything huh?

I like the romovable bit drivers, but I also like the longer dedicated drivers as well, so its about an even split for me on the screwdrivers. But the locking tools and pocket clip ability on the new wave definetly tip the scales for the new wave for me.

I have an "old style Wave" and really thought it neat until I sent my LM Supertool in for repairs and EDC'd the Wave.  I use the wire cutters and screwdrivers almost daily and got really tired of the screwdrivers folding up on my fingers.  I've not used the new style so no opinion on it.  I still have the Wave but don't carry it.  However, I still think it is a neat tool, just not as handy as some of the others I have.

Never had any experience with the old style, but I like the bit driver on the new style, because you can buy a kit with around 20 double sided bits for whatever you need, flat, phillips, pozi...

I have the new Wave but really haven't used it much yet.

I need to get the bit kit for it - that's what swayed me in the first place!!

Well I love the new locking mechanism but miss the big scissors, other than that the new wave is cool. I had the old one for years, it's so good that leatherman seems to use the design for everything. I am very use to dedicated drivers, and I don't know how much the new bit drivers can take, I remember somewhere on a forum where someone blew out the sides on his driver.

Old wave. i like the dedicated driver instead of the bit driver. And I can live w/o locking tools. Usually I only run across flat and phillips screws in my day to day...The bit driver seems a little short to me also.

My thoughts exactly - OLD is better than NEW.
Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !
