My first Case (very exciting!)
on: December 30, 2009, 10:22:11 PM
Today I got my very first Case knife, a Blue bone Medium Stockman.  Case knives have always been on "the list" and I have lusted over the many many pics of them on here (2xTap should never have been allowed in here  :P) but today I actually get chance to take some of my own.  :)

First up a few typical Benner like pics (with as little reflecto as possible  :D);

And a close up of the Case logo...

...and the jigging pattern;

The build is absolutely spot on and what I expected a knife with such a reputation to have.  I am certainly not disappointed.  :)
I'm back!!

Damn :drool:

I still want a multi bladed Case at some point, but I think the relative lack of utility would stop me carrying it :-\

I like the Stockman pattern as well :cheers: That's a very good first Case 2 start with :tu:

I had made a comment on here some time back about there quality slipping and it seems that it had (to me anyways) for a while but I have been checking them out lately and that has seemed to have changed for the better :)

Probably won't be your last Case as they have as many different knife variations as Vic :o :D Just not as many different tools ;)

I love the stockmen pattern,  Beautiful color too is it Bermuda Blue?

I still want a multi bladed Case at some point, but I think the relative lack of utility would stop me carrying it :-\
[/quote]

I feel that way sometimes but there is something about carrying a high quality "slippie" that is so tempting.

I have a John Primble stockmen that has been carried and worn down to perfection on the handles. (that's why you carry a Classic on your key ring).

So Ben what is the date?

The Case Dating System is a method for identifying the year a knife was manufactured. The dating symbols are found on the tang stamps at the base of the blade.

In 1970, Case added ten dots beneath the “U.S.A” on all knife tangs. Each year a dot was removed. In 1980, the same dating system was used. The differences are the “lightning” form of the “s” in “Case” and “USA,” as well as the placement of the dots above the “USA.” From 1990 to mid-1993, the actual date was stamped on the tang. The dot system was used again from mid-1993 through 1999. In 2000, Case introduced a new tang date stamp: five Xs and five dots. From 2001 through 2005, one dot is removed each year. From 2006 through 2009, an X is removed each year.

Case makes a very nice product and there are so many varieties to choose from! I have a modest collection of Case brand knives. I must say the Trapper or Slimline Trapper designs are my favorite with the Peanut coming in second.

The Trapper comes in a small or large size with 2 blades. The Slimline Trapper has only the one blade and fits nicely in a pocket as well as your hand. I like a large clip pointed blade. I need to get my camera and computer back up and online to take some photos of them.

Nice knife Benner!!!!! :tu: :salute:

Ben,

Nice grab bud, can't go wrong with any Case Stockman. Yours is definitely a 2004.......Blue Rodgers Jigged Bone #18 pattern Stockman from the looks of it. Real good color in this run, I have a few patterns from that run myself (although not the one you have, now that I think of it.....of all the Case knives I own I do not own any #18 Stockmans!  ???). You got a great start to what I hope will be a never ending addiction, glad I could help!  :D

Being a Slipaholic isn't a bad thing.  ;)

Now what you need is a Gunboat Canoe.  :2tu:

Ben,

Might I recommend one of the VPS versions in Navy Blue Bone like the one below on the right......

Or any of the Gunboats in Caribbean Blue Bone...........

Case also offers other VPS Gunboats in Ocean Blue Bone, Blue Lagoon Bone, Mediterranean Blue Bone, and Sky Blue Bone.  :pok:

Yeah, I know. But everytime I get around to getting any Case Stockmans I end up with either a #75, #47, or one of the #40 Classics......I really like the bigger patterns. I've been really jonesing for one of their new #046 Humpback Stockman's though!

Ah thanks for that nice little summary of that. I always had trouble understanding it. That makes my cv (amber bone? hard to tell...its *very* pocket worn) stockman a 2000 I think. I'll take pics sometime.

I too like the biggies, but biggies = biggie blades which could make it illegal for EDC over here.  :(
