Your Knife of 2009?
on: January 03, 2010, 01:57:46 AM

What has been the knife that had the biggest impact on either your collection, or use of knives of 2009?

Mine overall through the tough times I had with getting the edge bevel proper has to be my...
Spyderco Pacific Salt!

Yours?

German Eye Whittler. It has really rekindled my love of slippies. I love my multitools, and now I realize there is room for both in my pocket!

But really what brought me to the whittler is well, whittling. I tried to mod Vic's to be suitable and well, it just never quite worked out well. Since I've gotten the whittler, I've enjoyed carving even more. They aren't that pretty, but they sure are fun to make! I have a whole pile of ugly chickens! (I can't get the tail feathers to look right, no matter how many times I read Chris Luberkan's book).

for me it was the ScrapYard/Busse: "Scrapper5 LE" my 3rd piece of INFI!

I really like all kinds of blades and steels but INFI is special to me
and i have been waiting for this one for a long time ;)
with the super-comfy Mudder-Handles and the sweet balance
I was lucky to get one.

I have bought alot of new knives in 2009, from slippies and SAK's to tacticals and fixed blades. My knife collection expanded greatly this past year.

But I have to say my old standby EDC is the one that has been used most, carried most, and is the standard all other slippies I get are judged by, my good old Case Silverscript Gunboat Canoe..........

.......seen here with it's new clothes, KSF PocketSlip.  :2tu:

I have carried several different things this past year but the 1 knife that I have come back 2 after several years is a 2 bladed Tree brand Boker with red bone handles I have owned since I was 11 or 12 years old  Love this knife and both blades have been very handy plus when I carry it I don't even notice it's there  :tu:

For me this year it would have to be the Spyderco Manix2. It's a great knife that peaked my interest in Spyderco more.  That lead to other Spydercos.

I really don't think I can pin this one down, first I might say the Benchmade 940 Osborne since it's quite simple the smoothest and finest folder I currently own and I have wanted a Benchmade forever. Next is the Spyderco Paramilitary, been wanting one of these puppies since I was into knives. And what eclipses it all and makes it even harder to peg down is..... I have become a slipjoint junkie and I have carried nothing but them for months now. Some of my favorites are a Case Canoe in Amber Bone, Case Peanut in CV and a Case Medium Stockman in pocket worn bone. I love them all so much it's hard to peg just one in particular.  :drink:

Ok after some consideration I'd have to say my Emerson Commander.

This knife was not only my first Emerson, but it also really got me interested in liner locks, chisel grinds and even combo edges.  It has certainly earned a spot in one of my best folders.

Edit - and also the Wave feature.  :tu:

2xTap that Case is proper droolworthy.  Any ideas where one would get one of those (a Gunboat I mean) where they ship internationally?

Also, love the pocket sheath.  :)  Where you get that too?  I want something to stop me losing my slippies down the back of the sofa.

Well I went from virtually no (non-SAK) knives - to quite a few in 2009, and my favourite one has to be the UKPK. A big part of the reason being that it's the only "quality" knife I own that I'm not afraid to carry around and use. But also, it is actually the perfect knife for me and my EDC needs, It's better than just sufficient in fact.

In 2nd place would be the Mini-Grip that GG sent me - but that might have been 2008

I may pick up an Urban at some point, but maybe not. For now, I'm all sorted :tu:

I used to come here a lot.

that's a really cool book.  What were you trying to get the vic to do that it wouldn't work well for you?   :)

Ben,

Check out http://www.soonerstateknives.com/index.html ........I know he ships internationally but I don't know what his shipping charges are. He carries several different Gunboat Canoes and even has the very one I carry still in stock.

If you go to this link on his website, and scroll to the bottom, you'll find the Red Bone Silverscript Gunboat Canoe: http://www.soonerstateknives.com/caseredjiggedbonesilverscript.htm

Go to this link and scroll near the bottom of this page and you find a whole slew of somewhat older and newer Case Vintage Pattern series knives, he has 10 different Gunboats in stock here: http://www.soonerstateknives.com/casespecialeditionknives.htm

The guy that runs this place is Ken. I have bought literally dozens of knives from him. He's one of the best out there.

Hope this helps.

Another knife which made a good impact for me was my Buck;

Before getting this, Buck didn't interest me at all for some reason, but after getting it and seeing how perfect the build was it really changed my opinion of them and it urged me to get a Buck slippy (that John got for me a few months later).

And, it is gorgeous
