yud, your first photograph titled "here is the BIG sister" was taken not very far from my home lol. I am on that other shore, which is the Canadian side.

I love those battleship with giant cannons, still the best solution for piracy, reactivate a few and station them off coast of Somalia for a few months and problem solved.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BB61_USS_Iowa_BB61_broadside_USN.jpg
I only remember one particular scene from that movie.... (Image removed from quote.)

Rather bloodthirsty, aren't you?For land bases it'd be much easier and quicker to send in the Air Force with B-52s.Forget that they are holding hostages - bomb them back to the stone age!.

Somalian pirates don't hold hostages in their base of operation (village is more appropriate) on land.2. They tend to be very close to shore and small in size.3. No, I don't have any sympathy for pirates.
1. Surely they don't publicize exactly where they are holding the hostages.2. Which means that a battleship wouldn't be a good tool to deal with those villages, even if the intent was to completely destroy the villages.3. I too have no sympathy for the pirates. When captured they should be dealt with in the traditional manner: a quick military tribunal then hanged by their necks until dead. But, I have some degree of sympathy for innocents, especially women and children, likely present but uninvolved in piracy..

Yes they do, they keep hostages on the ships they hijack, that's how Somalian pirates operate.2. The whole thing was meant as a joke. 3. Unfortunately it'll never happen. Pirates were captured on many occasions, but they were all released because captors have no jurisdiction over them.

Surprising how little freeboard there is for an ocean going ship. It looks like a big wave broadside would swamp her.

There appears to be little freeboard, but remember, those containers are 40' long and ten feet high, each filled with upwards of 50,000 pounds of cargo. And, you are just seeing what's above decks- the holds are probably filled below decks as well, meaning the ship is extremely solid and therefore stable. They will rock in some heavy weather, but the kind of wave that will knock that over is the kind of wave that will wipe out the port it's headed for anyway.Def
