Help Identifying an old Swiss Army Knife?
on: January 04, 2010, 06:48:01 AM
Hello all!
I have an old Victorinox Swiss Army knife that is pretty beefed up with a saw and a fish scaler as well as some type of long, thin spike on the back end that is about 3-4 inches long.  Any idea what it might be?

I called the company and the spike stumped the woman on the phone and she had to escalate my inquiry but as of yet, no word.
Thanks for any input or ideas!  Oh...the tweezers have the old steel top instead of the newer gray plastic top.

Oh and the side that was cut off in the pic has a bottle opener, a scissors and a long blade.

It's far too early for me, but it looks like an early Champion to me

I thought it was a Champion also, but have never seen that spike before.  I have to go to bed now, but will check back in here in the am.  Thanks!

I think that 'spike' is a nail file.

Mmhmm, the "elusive" long nail file.  It's a beautiful knife you have, FC.

Yes, that is an early Champion.

Here is another example of it but minus the bail.

Price is always a hard thing to judge, it can vary quite a bit.  This similar knife (Phillips instead of cork screw) went for close to $50 just a few days ago: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230416488982  Yours is likely older because it has the bail.

My guess would be about $50 also. LMK if you want to sell, I'd be interested.

How would I go about trying to guess the age of it?  I saw the one link that showed a 1967 ad where it looked identical, but am not sure how many years they made these  in this style.

Your probably not going to get an exact age on that one, or almost anyone really.  You can post another picture showing all tools and the toothpick and tweezers and someone might be able to give more guidence.

I think a date of manufacture of late 60s is probably as close as you will get. However someone on here may be able to narrow it down, addtional pictures probably would be helpful.
