Vintage Schrade folding utensils
on: January 13, 2010, 08:13:43 AM
No idea how old, but they came enclosed in a leather pouch marked Boy Scouts of America and have a non-Schrade short spoon. Primitive looking, but cool nonetheless. A gift from a friend. Thanks Bill!

If you could read that last picture, it says Schrade and Pat. Pending.. hard to shoot though.

I think it is safe to say the set is pre Taylors Schrade in age :D :D :D.

Very cool set mate  :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: It would be interesting to see what the original spoon looked like

That may be the original spoon...I don't think they were made as folders for that set - LINK

Thanks for the link!

I'd say mine most resembles this 1940s one : Right Here

And I too believe it is the original spoon. My guess is that the BSA sourced the knife and fork from Schrade, the spoon from someone else (I forget what it says on the back), and then had the leather holder made to fit them. A folding spoon similar to the fork and knife would not fit the spoon slot at all.

So it looks like a set from the 40s! Wow!

..smells kinda musty...  :D

This set has one small problem though... I'll never use it. I've thought about it quite a bit, and while it is very cool, it will sit in a drawer until I die. That'd be a shame.

I like gear, but I like gear I will use. My collection of tools are pretty much all users or former users. Sure, I like MTs just to have, but I don't have one single NIB MT. All get EDCed.

I'm the guy that gives my old MTs to friends so they can continue to be used.  :ahhh

Do you guys think anyone would be interested in that set in the swap forum? Frankly, I'd get more pleasure out of a traded SAK and the knowledge that somebody has the set and loves it.
