The worlds smallest cable?

Well i get random computer bits of friends and in amongst one delivery was this strange little creature.

Its function? Well from testing it with the trusty multimeter....its job is....to extend the length of the cable by around 0.5cm!
Why did anyone ever make this thing! And why would anyone give it a patent!

Strange, I thought for a second you'd misunderstood its function but then I realised that for it to be a gender changer it would have to have the same connections on both sides, like the one I used to hook up my cable to a signal booster the other day. That is weird, the only thing I can think of is maybe its a 1 in a million factory defect...

if you look at the orientation of the screw bosses then it would suggest that it's for connecting two cables together .

You just have to think a bit to figure it out. .. Odd way of doing it though.

Maybe you are supposed to buy a whole stack of them, attach them all together, then do away with the flexible cable altogether?  ;D
