I can't say just how strong the ratchet is, as I've only done the bike work with it so far. Nothing really heavy duty yet. I can say that it feels like it is remarkably strong for it's size.

I'm at work right now, but I'll shoot some more pictures when I get home.

The ratchet & bit kit are packaged with the SwissTool "Plus" and the Spirit "Plus" multitools, or can be purchased seperately. Good and bad about the Plus packaging:

Good: the multitool sheath is wider, with room to hold both the multitool and the ratchet & bit kit in the same sheath.

Not so good: the sheath is then somewhat too wide, sticking out from my belt far enough that it snags on tables and chairs and such when I walk by.

(I've gone to using the regular sheath, and carrying my bit kit in a seperate pouch.)

The little ratchet itself is exquisite. It feels strong...I would wager that a person would strip out the screw or round off the driver bit before ever damaging the ratchet itself.

Bits are retained by a circular clip, no magnets. To tighten a screw, simply insert the hex bit in from the opposite side that you would use to loosen a screw.

Not so good: hex (allen) bits and torx bits stay in the screw nicely by themselves when tightening or loosening screws. However, phillips bits try to "push out" of the screw. It is difficult to keep enough pressure on the backside of a phillips bit to prevent it from pushing out. Even moderately tight phillips screws are a problem that way.  (hope my description makes sense)

The opposite end of the ratchet has a hex driver too. It is great for reaching deep down into a recess to get at a screw.

My bit kit came with 6 standard 1/4" bits, with spaces for 4 more of my own choosing. A nice compact little package all-in-all.

The only limitation I see is in the length of the ratchet handle. The ratchet head seems able to handle anything but you are still a bit limited by having enough leverage and hand purchase on the small handle. But then, if you have a "big" job I would use a regular ratchet anyway.

Recently I've been seeing photos of the Victorinox "plus" package that shows a cute little extension for the ratchet. But mine didn't come with one.  :(

I wonder if it is available as a seperate item?

Picked up a neat little accessory at the hardware store today. A small set of sockets in a plastic holder, and a 1/4 hex -to- 1/4 square drive adapter bit. I'll stow it all in my seperate tool pouch.

Now I can deal with nuts and bolts!  :)

The sockets and adapter are a no-brand made-in-Taiwan set. They came with a ratcheting screwdriver and a bunch of hex driver bits, all packaged up together for $14.99

A set of inch sockets 3/16" to 1/2" and a set of metric sockets 5mm to 13mm were included.

Just to clarify something, items like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/SwissTool-CS-PLUS-Victorinox-Swiss-Army-Knife-knives-X_W0QQitemZ270198355144QQihZ017QQcategoryZ1403QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem

Just have a bit extender dont they? No ratchet, because I always assumed that was the ratchet. Is there any Swisstool package that comes with the ratchet and bit-kit? It seems to be all Spirits on Ebay that have them.

The SwissTool CS Plus had the wrench and bit kit, and we speculated that it was just a matter of time before a ratchet version of the CS Plus was offered, but so far, no joy.

Try contacting Tim at felinevet@sosakonline.com as he may be able to help you get the tools you want.

How do these accessories (wrench, ratchet) attach to the multitool itself?  Are there any pics?

The wrench and ratchet don't actually attach to the Swisstool or the Spirit.  They are independant from the main tool but can be stored in the same sheath.

I sadly don't have any pics as I don't have one myself, but I am sure someone else will be along soon with some.

Correct, they are just accessories to accompany the tool. While the Swiss Tool Plus only comes with the wrench and not the Ratchet, I can supply the package by changing out the wrench for a Ratchet for an extra charge. Sorry but I don't have any Ratchet extensions however.
