Wenger Fighting Knife

What do you reckon? - LINK

Genuine military item or a bunch of surplus Bayonet blades with new handles molded onto them?

got really excited then i saw the boringness of it all. I kind of only like the soviet/eastgerman akm type bayonets though. Probably also like the glock knives... sells more on the quality associated with the name then function

Since we are the only company in America permitted to offer this Knife, it's truly a Sportsman's Guide Exclusive.

Interesting- I'll have to ask Wenger what makes Sportsman's Guide so special!

They probably bought the whole stock allocated for the States. They have the money and storage space to do that with surplus, buy in BULK on the cheap and still make a good profit by selling at a relatively low price.

Not my type of knife, daggers are not my style of a fighting knife

What a bunch of crap! These are PE57 Swiss Bayonets made by both Wenger and Victorinox and I have sold hundreds of them. I have quite a few now that have "Elsener Schwyz" tang stamps from Victorinox. Mine also have original dated leather frogs. Each bayonet had individual serial number on tang.

These do not have bayonet fittings on them Tim...there is no muzzle ring or locking lug release...that's why I was questioning if they were factory produced. The handles appear to be entirely of molded plastic.

It could be that Wenger produced them to use up remaining stock of bayonet blades.

I stand corrected. I magnified the hilt and see what you mean. As to it's use as a "battle knife", the edges of the blades are not sharpened and the tips are pretty blunt and thick (unless these are different in that department also, which I can't tell) and would not suit that purpose very well IMO. As with the bayonets, you can sharpen them and have a better knife.

Loose the Bayonet lug, and it could have a Ka-Bar-esque field knife capability

With a very few exceptions , Bayo's make Naff fighting knives . And as far as utility goes , they are even worse . The only exception that comes to mind is the Finnish Bayo . for the Valmet . It handles like a slightly butt heavy Puko , and has a Pukko like sheath .

Yep, they are still not readily available to the public and are hard to find.

FYI-I finally got one of the SG "fighting knives" and it is the serialized bayonet blades, same markings, same scabbard, with the over molded plastic handle the same overall length. The gaurd is part of the molded handle and doen't seem to contain any metal insert by the sound it makes when you tap on it. The plastic isn't the same stuff the original bayonet handle is made of, it's more like the plastic your computer box is made of whereas the original bayonets handle seems more like a harder stronger phenolic plastic.
IMHO-being a lot like the bayonet it's still cool. Not a legit fighting knife. I may just grind the blade sharp all the way to the gaurd as it's only a cutting edge for the first 4" of the 9-5/8" blade length. It would be a great double edged steak knife-lol
