Thinking about a Cybertool .
on: January 19, 2010, 04:25:03 PM
I'm thinking about a Cybertool for work . A few precision drivers close to hand could be handy . Whia and Wera make good 4mm bits , so I can ipck and choose the bit array .

I'm pretty comfortable belt carrying SAK's in the Ranger/Swisschamp size bracket ( in a belt pouch ) .

Which Cybertool should I get ?

I will probably get rid of the stock scales , and get a set of Stayglo scales from Rotokid .

a 34, if you don't need magnifier, a tiny white led or saw, will be enough ;)

The Cybertool 41 adds a saw, a file and a few extra backside tools.  If you don't need the saw or file, go with the 34.

The 41 makes a very easy sheath carry.  I EDC one.  :tu:

I carry CT41 in my laptop bag, and metal file came handy a number of times. Size-wise, it's equivalent to Swisschamp.

Off topic, kinda, but what would be neat with the CT Lite is them replacing the current light in it with an inline Phillips, taking the tweezers and replacing them with the electronic shorty pair, placing it with the other Plus scale tools on the back, and then taking the now-empty front scale and add a slot for a MicroSD card in a tiny USB reader and add a larger LED and battery light, similar to the 58mm range. >.>

... And then adding the magnifier/Phillips layer and scale treatment to the CT41 to make it a CT47. :D

IIRC , yes , but I get Whia and Whera confused all the time . This is compounded by the fact that they both make great stuff .

This came up before. Apparently the Wiha bits don't have retention balls.

I have a Cybertool Lite but never formed that special multitool bond with it :P  That's why it's now up for sale in the Sale forum..

The Cybertool has a lot of capability besides the standard SAK mainstays like the saw/scissors/openers etc...but the added capability is pretty specialized for folks who work around smaller drivers.  The reason I never carried it was because I A) don't run into small drivers too often, and B) I carry a dedicated mini bit driver and about 24 mini bits in my EDC bag.

The LED on it isn't an afterthought either which is what I thought for something that size...It wasn't designed to navigate through the woods or a hallway, but for looking into cramped spaced behind equiptment or inside of CPUs it's perfect.

I have a CT-34 125 Jubilee for collection only.....and a month ago, bought a CT-34 with the blue scales for use.   I too agree the CT-34 is plenty.  Above it, too bulky.

I am thinking about a cybertool 34 myself.  Does anyone know the dimensions of  the 34?  and is the lite version any wider?

I do not have a Lite model to compare but here is what my Ct34 measures up to.
Obviously its 91mm long x 27mm wide. It weighs in at 5.2 oz or 149 gm. Mine is an Emerald scaled model that I use regularly.

I have both a CT34 and CT29. I prefer my CT29 due to its size and being so much lighter.

The Ct29 is 21mm's wide and weighs in at 3.4 oz or 98 gm.

I measured my CT34, CT41 and CT Lite:

CT34 (125th anniversary - may be thicker?): 28mm
CT41: 32.8mm
CT Lite: 33.5mm

If you want a more tangible comparison, a CT34 is almost the same thickness as a Champion Plus. The CT41 or Lite is about the same thickness as a SwissChamp. The CT29 is about the size of an Explorer.

I am thinking about a cybertool 41 for edc.  I like the swisschamp, but I think I would use the bits more than the fish scaler and magnifying glass.  Jazzbass says the CT41 is the same thickness as the swisschamp anyway.  I currently edc a sog powerlock. In terms of weight I'm shaving off 3 oz total if I switch.  The only crossroads I am faced with is if I will be missing the massive beast pliers.

Any thoughts?

ps- what is the blade length  of a CT if measured where the scales end?

if you need the pliers for heady duty things the CT will not deliver, other that that im sure it will be up to the task :tu:

if it counts for anything i always have a SOG PL and a CT34 in my bag :)

Question about the CT lite.   If I wanted to make it slimmer, could you remove the magnifying glass and shove the can opener and bottle opener in its place? it seems a little crammed length wise, may have to do some shaving, but what about the width?

Not even if I were to shave the ends off a little?

unless my eyes decieve me, I think the bottle opener is a tad longer than the can opner. There is a slight amount of space to grind a little off the end of the bottle opener and reshape the screwdriver edge. I am not sure about the can opener in terms of fitting but it looks pretty close.

NOW will it work?!

Or do what I did.  Take the opener layers out along with the small blade.  Then in the small blades place add the combo tool.  My cybertool consists of: large blade/combo tool, scissors, drivers and bits.  Then back side I have a corkscrew with mini driver, and hook will file.  All wrapped up in black plus scales.

Usually, the Victorinox 'combo tool' is a combination of a can opener, a cap liftler and a flat screwdriver. The best example is the one on the Victorinox Compact. Hope this helps. :)

I asked this in another thread as well, but is it possible to put the awl on place of the chisel or fine screwdriver?
I want to get rid of the opener layer but I always have a need for an awl.
