What's really funny is that Bob was just telling me this morning that he wanted to buy a new AR-15.... several hours before we knew about the MUT!

So I'm sure a lot of you folks are thinking, "Okay, impressive tool, but what about the guy like me who doesn't own an AR15 rifle?" :-\

Well not to worry, according to the impressions we got while talking with lead design engineer Ben Rivera. Leatherman recognizes that certain cutting-edge features on the mission-specific MUK tool would also make great sense on multitools with a more general purpose. Personally (just my own opinion here) I would not be surprised to see the following features reincarnated on other tools in the foreseeable future:

Heel hammer/strap cutter...........seems like an obvious addition to an ST300-like tool
Big 1HO knife blade and saw........surely a SuperSurge cannot be too far away?
On-board long bit system...........even the Wave and Charge series could benefit from this

So even though the MUK itself may not be the right tool for you, it is exciting to think that some of its finer attributes might be passed along to its siblings in the Leatherman line-up someday. :salute:
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Excellent to hear about innovation from one of the leading players in the game. And looking forward to seeing some of these features trickle down into the normal line up.

hmm, I want one, it doesn't seem all that specific IMO, other than the ball puller bit everything seems quite generic.

why would you need a wood saw on a tool to service guns anyway?

No idea... I agree though, I think I could figure out a use for the scraper and the other tool. Still seems like a decent general use tool to me! :2tu:

so this may just be the token Leatherman for me to own.
My question. Any plans to make this suit other popular rifle platforms like the AK?
(or the toolset is compatible anyway)

I have only decided this week that i want to seek out a M6 Scout/Survival rifle and was trying to work out the sak or multi to go with it. I think this baby is going to be it  >:D

Well I didn't see this one coming .Extra long bits  :tu:  I can see alot of broken charge/wave/skeletool bit adapters happening due to the extra torque

The hammer is a great idea - I totally agree that it's tempting to use an MT as one and then hopefully realise it's not funny or clever to do so!  ::)

I will never own a weapon which this is intended for, but I still think it's a great looking heavy duty tool  :tu:

AWESOME!!!

This looks great.  Plus, I love the sheath.  Will the sheath come in different colors?  Like OD green, multi-cam, etc?

That is a cool looking tool.  I own a Rock River Arms Elite CAR-15 and I will probably buy a MUT when it comes out but I don't see myself using it "in the field", or at the range.  If I were in the Army still I would definitely have one though.

I probably won't pick this tool up as it's a little pricey and I don't have much use a tool dedicated to it's purpose.  However, it's great to see Leatherman making a solid, dedicated tool for those in the military.  Very cool.   :salute:

I'm really stoked about the possibilities of MUT attributes on other new multitools.  Replace a few tools, and you've got a Super Surge!   :gimme:

I have to agree, this is a kick ass leatherman. Also pricey  though I dont see how you could rule it out on the premise of its "dedicated purpose". I understand it's touted as a ar15 specific or maybe I just read that somewhere,  it has many features that anyone could use. I think it looks good.

This.

I suspect the next generation LM tools will happily adopt these various tools (and variants there of).

Absolutely stunning.   :o

Interesting tool, but I'll never own a '15.  Too fiddly.  The built in 'biner makes a whole lot of sense for a military tool!

Mostly makes me curious for a Long Bit Kit though!
