you know, depending on how it is balanced, that Ta-Bar looks like it would make a good bo-shuriken.

I would actually get one, and really plan on making that the top of the list. It is unusual and different and really pushes the envelope on design. Gerber you watching?

Overall from what I have seen in person from the Flux is that it's a rather well thought out piece. If the Flux was never released beyond the basic set (knife module and driver module) the idea would fizzle rather quickly, the main thing the Flux has going for it is that it is a platform for all kinds of expansion. It's kind of like a radical twist on the Coleman Pro-Lock. The Flux and it's success relies solely on the sum of it's parts, if they can keep up with demand and even release some new modules now and then it might stand a good chance. I think CRKT/ ID Works creates some fantastic designs and this is something so radical it could work. I am not too fond of the smallish nature of the main blade or maybe the fact that everything is bead blasted (god I love shiny metal) but it's got lots of potential and I cannot wait to try one out. When I EDC multitools I rarely have need for pliers, I am more knife and driver based than most folks and it just works for me. Just the Flux "basic" set is enough to fill that need and would give me other ways to expand if I chose to do so. Hey CRKT, you can drop one off anytime....  :mail:

Did they have a  version where the middle piece was a pair of pliers?

No they didn't, but due to the way this tool is put together anything is possible for future ideas.

Oooh, that's a good idea! You mean like a pair of pliers with a T-rail for one of the other modules to click into right? So the plier (or wrench!) would just take the place of the carabiner rail piece. :)

Wow TK, I'm impressed. :salute:  (I may just have to contact those i.d. guys and tell them that was my idea!) :D :D

It'd probably end up looking like that one tool.  Can't think of who made it.  The one with the snap in sections.  Obviously that went over well if I can't even remember the name of it.

I think an adjustable wrench, similar to the Guppie might be a better, or at least more workable idea.  After all, the Flux kinda looks like the offspring of a Guppie and a Pro-Lock!

So I guess it's for POD People?   :D  I wonder how you can get the plastic "pods" onto the Jaws.  Maybe Def's right about the adjustable thing.  might be easier.  But heck if they can do what they did so far, why not go all the way.  I'd like a nice pair of channel locks on my pods. :climber:

This idea of two parts joining together to make a tool, each containing a set of implements which allow you to do something could also work with a pliers based folding MT.

Each 'handle' could be made detachable, and could contain different implements, e.g. a USB key and a LED torch, electrician implements, knives, a hex bit driver and bit holder (like the cybertool), etc.

The process could be taken further by making the plier heads interchangable, so you can swap on a needle nose, or a blunt nose, or an angled head etc, etc (I believe a Gerber model already does this)

If a tool maker put enough effort and money into making a really good one of these, i.e. a very customisable tool, where you have a basic chasis onto which you put handles containing tools, and heads for the job you need, it could work out very nicely.

It is good to see examples of customisable tools like the flux.

Ahem...  :pok: Ahem....  :pok:

I really hope CRKT can carry this idea on to different designs and forms of the multitool.

I'm sure I could find a use for that Ta Bar  :gimme:

Overall, they seem to be coming up with some nice original designs. Nothing else jumps out at me yet, but I can see how that shiny knife might be popular. How about something without a lock CRKT?  :pok:

Hey You got to give it to them , They are now the company pushing the envelope of design and they shure as hell dont have moss growing under thier feet. I almost think it is time for thier own forum.

A CRKT sub-forum has been on the back burner for a while, although unfortunately there has been very little discussion about CRKT tools in the past.  If this keeps up though, I may have to start reconsidering it- after all, their tool line is expanding rapidly.

well it works both ways surely, if there is a specific forum for CRKT tools, you will get more discussion about the tools in comparison to if there isn't a dedicated forum.

And since it seems the company is turning out to be one of the most innovative, well priced, and have started churning out more offerings, I think most of us believe they warrant their own subforum, the sooner the better!

I have often thought that smaller manufacturers such as CRKT and bear deserve their own sub forum myself...

I would love to, but as I've said, there just hasn't been enough volume of discussion to do that.  Bear is mentioned very rarely (other than the odd person asking for a Bear Forum) and when was the last time we had a discussion about the Zilla, Guppie, or Get-A-Way Driver?  I'm not saying these tools aren't good- in fact I have many CRKT tools and more than a few Bears- but there just isn't the interest in them to warrant a specific forum for them, or at least not yet.

As usual, feel free to try to convince me otherwise!

Hmm, ok, to put it another way, wouldnt it be neater to have all the discussion of CRKT tools in one place, rather than mixed in with the 'general' stuff on these boards? If we have some multitool enthusiast come to these boards who is particularly fond of CRKT, wouldnt he be more impressed to find that even though they are not the biggest multitool manufacturers, but due to their dedication to producing tools of high quality and ingenuity, we have afforded them their own little corner on the boards, and even though that little corner may not see as much activity as the boards for leatherman or victorinox, it does mean it is easy to find all you want to know about CRKT tools in one specific area.

And to put it yet another way, why not? As far as my incredibly limited knowledge of websites go, I thought it was quite a simple process to try out, and see if it works well. You won't know until you try....

There, I'm all out of arguments. If this doesnt work thats me beat  :)

how about having a section for "minor manufacturers" with subsections for all the other multi tool makers tools, that way (as above) all discussion specific to their tools can be kept in one place.

and what is the worst that could happen? no one uses it and it takes up a tiny amount of database room.
