(Image removed from quote.)Overall from what I have seen in person from the Flux is that it's a rather well thought out piece. If the Flux was never released beyond the basic set (knife module and driver module) the idea would fizzle rather quickly, the main thing the Flux has going for it is that it is a platform for all kinds of expansion. It's kind of like a radical twist on the Coleman Pro-Lock. The Flux and it's success relies solely on the sum of it's parts, if they can keep up with demand and even release some new modules now and then it might stand a good chance. I think CRKT/ ID Works creates some fantastic designs and this is something so radical it could work. I am not too fond of the smallish nature of the main blade or maybe the fact that everything is bead blasted (god I love shiny metal) but it's got lots of potential and I cannot wait to try one out. When I EDC multitools I rarely have need for pliers, I am more knife and driver based than most folks and it just works for me. Just the Flux "basic" set is enough to fill that need and would give me other ways to expand if I chose to do so. Hey CRKT, you can drop one off anytime....
Did they have a version where the middle piece was a pair of pliers?

You mean like a pair of pliers with a T-rail for one of the other modules to click into right? So the plier (or wrench!) would just take the place of the carabiner rail piece. Wow TK, I'm impressed. (I may just have to contact those i.d. guys and tell them that was my idea!)

Coleman Pro Lock? (Image removed from quote.)
Quote from: J-sews on January 24, 2010, 08:55:55 AMColeman Pro Lock? (Image removed from quote.)Yup The original intention was to make "pods" that you could change oout for diff. Uses.
This idea of two parts joining together to make a tool, each containing a set of implements which allow you to do something could also work with a pliers based folding MT.Each 'handle' could be made detachable, and could contain different implements, e.g. a USB key and a LED torch, electrician implements, knives, a hex bit driver and bit holder (like the cybertool), etc.The process could be taken further by making the plier heads interchangable, so you can swap on a needle nose, or a blunt nose, or an angled head etc, etc (I believe a Gerber model already does this)If a tool maker put enough effort and money into making a really good one of these, i.e. a very customisable tool, where you have a basic chasis onto which you put handles containing tools, and heads for the job you need, it could work out very nicely. It is good to see examples of customisable tools like the flux.
I'm sure I could find a use for that Ta Bar Overall, they seem to be coming up with some nice original designs. Nothing else jumps out at me yet, but I can see how that shiny knife might be popular. How about something without a lock CRKT?
Hey You got to give it to them , They are now the company pushing the envelope of design and they shure as hell dont have moss growing under thier feet. I almost think it is time for thier own forum.
well it works both ways surely, if there is a specific forum for CRKT tools, you will get more discussion about the tools in comparison to if there isn't a dedicated forum. And since it seems the company is turning out to be one of the most innovative, well priced, and have started churning out more offerings, I think most of us believe they warrant their own subforum, the sooner the better!
I have often thought that smaller manufacturers such as CRKT and bear deserve their own sub forum myself...

I wish it did.... but it doesn't.
I would love to, but as I've said, there just hasn't been enough volume of discussion to do that. Bear is mentioned very rarely (other than the odd person asking for a Bear Forum) and when was the last time we had a discussion about the Zilla, Guppie, or Get-A-Way Driver? I'm not saying these tools aren't good- in fact I have many CRKT tools and more than a few Bears- but there just isn't the interest in them to warrant a specific forum for them, or at least not yet.As usual, feel free to try to convince me otherwise!Def
