Sadly, despite the highly praised Vic fit and finish, quite a few of the tools have vertical play.  I did a video once, I'll see if I can find it...

Although I agree that the play doesn't matter at all - you don't get it on the Surge.

I'm not a huge fan of the Surge at all, but the "rattle" comes from the handles, due to the weight of them - there are no lock-up issues on the external or internal tools.
I used to come here a lot.

Just a quick follow up to that vid, the play seems a lot worse now, especially with the phillips, and mine actually does have a little rattle to it.  It doesn't bother me at all, but it is very clear it is there.

Huh, mine initially had the opposite problem as in the video- the smaller tools had some play, but the knife and larger tools locked up like a rock. I was able to remedy this with some fiddling for most of the tools.

The bigger issue I had was that the spring tension was so stiff my nails were tearing getting some tools out. Some fiddling cured that problem also. (I could have sent it in, but I bought this thing to use, not to have it be away for 6-8 weeks.)

Yeah, thanks,I understand, but you show a horizontal play, almost every implement has a horizontal play, but my Swisstool scissor except horizontal play  has a huge vertical play.

Ooh, definitely send that back- mine was sort of a dud quality-wise, but it didn't have any horizontal play. Play in both directions on the same tool is just embarrassing.

Not sure if I classify different to you or whether you saw it differently in the video, but that was showing vertical play and not horizontal.  The play is all up and down (vertical) and at the time there wasn't any horizontal (side to side) play at all although there is a bit now.

Yeah all of my tools have vertical play like yours, but it's only really the phillips that has a lot of horizontal.

Will be keen to hear how quickly they sort you out  :)

Mine has a tiny tiny bit of vertical play in a few implements, zero horizontal though. It is developing a fair bit of pliers play of course however. Still not as bad as the play my Surge had. Only time will tell if it ever gets bad enough to mater.
