How do you carry your SOG Power lock?
on: June 20, 2007, 04:51:25 AM
The leather sheath that come with my powerlock (is it powerlock or "power lock"?) is nice, but it rides a bit higher on my belt then I like it.

What other options do I have when it come to wearing it on my belt?

I would guess once the factory sheath wears in a bit it won't be so tight to my side and it maybe better, but was wondering what some other options are.

Good question. I use the factory sheath, but I do notice it is a bit of a high-rider.
A horizontal carry option would be nice.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

A horizontal carry option would be nice.

They have one...online it looks like it's a regular vertical sheath, but on the back there's options for both vertical and horizontal carry.

I usually carry it loose in my pocket, reserving the sheath for when I'm on the jobsite. Although I rarely use it there either. I'm more a pocket/pocket clip kinda guy.

I have two Powertools.  One is new and came with the factory sheath.  It does ride high.  The other is older and was used when I got it.  The nylon sheath was all stretched out, so I bought a leather replacement.

One of our big box stores, Meijer, has loose leather sheaths with a generic label stamped on it.  I got the closest one then form fit it by getting the case wet then letting it dry with the tool inserted.  I did this I think 2 or 3 times.  When it was snug, I oiled it up with Snopruf and some gentle heat two or three times.

Now I have an almost custom sheath, and it rides lower and more comfortable.

17Chap,

Great idea, could you post a photo of it?
I am going sheath shopping friday. Was thinking a guy could also take another piece of leather and make new belt loop on the back of the factory sheath were you wanted it.

Try this guy in Alberta, Canada. His large knife case fits a powerlock like a glove. Think
of it as a pancake holster for a multi-tool. His price is way better than a custom sheath.

That's a nice looking case.  I may have to check one of those out sometime!

I have these fitted to most of my pouch's

http://www.blade-tech.com/Tek-Lok-Utility-Belt-Clip-Large-pr-841.html

I use them because they can be removed from your belt fast but they also allow a bit of space for anything that normal carries high to be more comfortable. They can also be made to carry side ways with just a bit of work drilling a couple of strips to fit.
