Favorite EDC Spyderco?
on: January 24, 2010, 04:37:54 PM
Hi,

I'm actually looking around for that "perfect" EDC knife and have really taken a liking to the Spydercos. I currently only have a Delica and an Endura, but am looking for something a bit larger that is still legal.

Im also leaning toward a serrated blade, but am not set. I could just as easily get a combo blade or straight edge blade.

Any suggestions? I love the Police, but I have to check out the legality of it here in Oregon because the blade is over 4". I've been also looking at the Sage and Sage 2, though I think the Sage 2 has a blade over 4" too.

I appreciate any input, thank you!

check out their website if you haven't already done so,  http://www.spyderco.com/  They have
pretty complete info including blade size.  I quite like the Military's but they are 4 inches blade
length.

Well as I keep saying the Police is a fantastic knife that will serve you well and looks gorgeous.  I am sure you would not be disappointed with one of those.

Is weight an issue at all?

I like the Native and the Native 4.  Also, check out the Caly 3 in G10.  It ride's very low in the pocket!

I probably carry the Caly3 more than my Native 4, but the Native 4 is my favorite. ??? :D

I have an Endura 4 that I love.   I want the Native also, maybe one day.  Any Spyderco is going to treat you right. :tu:

My personal favorite in a bigger Spydie is the FRN Stretch. It fits my hand much better and provides a more secure grip than the Delica or Endura, but isn't bulky in the pocket at all. The larger opening hole and flat ground blade make it easy to open and a lovely cutter.

I have no experience with these...only reviews here and Youtube, but here's my thoughts FWIW

Rookie-but I think it's only available PE
Tenacious-Awesome knife!  It's not 4" but it's 3.5
Police-If a knife can be "sexy" then this knife
Um....
Military-beautiful knife but I'll never pay that much for one
Paramilitary-same as Military

EDC in NYC (rhymes :D) is not easy and a cop can give you trouble over a Vic Classic if he wants to. My edc spydie is a Dragonfly, small but very useful. I generally don't bother with large blades. Right now looking for a spidie in size between the Dragonfly and my Persistence, which is a great knife for the price paid but a bit on the larger size for city carry.

My current is E4 wave, but I also have a smaller knife that I use for most work.

I would go with the Stretch:  :tu:

I bought one after I saw this review and I've been really happy with it. A great edc knife for sure.

The only Spydie that I have is an older Spyderco Rescue Jr  (similar to the Rescue 79 mm).  Have to say I'm not a big fan of the Spyderedge serrated blade.  Really aggressive, but not a pleasant cutting experience IMO.

I'd be interested in what you come up with.  I'm looking at Spydies again and want something in just the size your talking about. :tu:

Like the UKPK but Urban with its shorter blade is more appealing. I've also lookd at Delica, Mini Manix (83mm), Native, and Cat. Some of those blades are longer than Persistence but their blade shape is more to my liking  Let me know what you settle on. I'm going for a PE blade btw.

Ok, so I went Spyderco shopping today, just to get a feel for them.  I think I'm leaning toward the Spyderco VG-10 Endura4 with the all black combo blade.  I played with the Police, but think its a bit big for me to justify an EDC and while he didn't have the Military in stock, I was told it was roughly the same size.

Here it is

Hope you can see the pics

Is it wrong to say I like the Bug? ^^;  Of course, it went to my mum, so I now am waiting on the Grasshopper so I can get it, the Honeybee, and the Bug all in one go. >.>

Granted, my CF Kiwi arrived today, so when I get to look it over, my money will probably fall to that... of course, my mum said she liked it so much that I /may/ end up having to get one for her, too. XD  Granted, she'd never carry it. -_-

The Endura is a great knife, the 4 being fully stripable as well.  :tu:

No of course not - although I'd wonder how you can do anything useful with it!

The Ladybug on the other hand is a great little knife!
